Report
1 Journal Critique on Fiscal Fitness and Intercollegiate Athletics Department of Education, Liberty University EDUC 562: Introduction to Higher Education Dr. Kevin White November 26, 2023 Journal Critique on Fiscal Fitness and Intercollegiate Athletics Summary
2 The article is a profound scholarly investigation that establishes the fitness experience of students in historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs). The report outlines that athletic departments fail to produce substantial financial returns in some black colleges. The article also adds that the athletic departments sometimes face financial hardships at HBCUs that might affect the students' ability to achieve fitness in college. The report showed a need for more profound plans and programs to improve fitness and college athletics. Analysis of Author's Key Points One of the main points that the article outlines is that the HBCUs are the member institutions with the least amount of resources to fund fitness in college. The other key point is that black college institutions do not have adequate financial resources to support their programmers. The main points show that it is pretty hard to acquire an internal and unbiased understanding of the obstacles that black colleges face as they attempt to increase the fitness level of their athletes (Elliott & Kellison, 2021). According to the research, the participants in the study were allowed to express their perspectives on the present financial condition of HBCU athletic programs. The overall response was that the lack of resources has affected the level of fitness that black colleges have, as shown through their athletes. Personal Response I found the article to present critical points that one can use when investigating collegiate fitness, especially from black colleges. Showing that HBCU athletics programs have obstacles such as funding and poor allocation of resources was critical for the study. The article gave a profound perspective that one can use when studying fitness and intercollegiate athletics. Reference
