Hi everyone! My name is Igor. I’m a sophomore and I just transferred from New England College. My major is in Business Administration and my minor is in Sport Management. I’m from Slovakia so hopefully, this is going to help me to succeed in this class and help me to understand the problems better. Three different products that I usually buy in the supermarket are prosciutto, bananas, and coffee beans. I like good coffee so I always choose higher-quality coffee beans to make myself happy. The best coffee beans usually come from Costa Rica or Brazil. We can say the same thing about bananas. Although the bananas could be grown in the United States (maybe in Florida, or California) but the bananas that are being sold here in the US typically come from South America. Next on the list is prosciutto. I love eating prosciutto, but nothing compares to the prosciutto that is manufactured and imported from Italy. With globalization, people move to different countries, and they crave the products that they can normally find in their homeland stores as well as give people the opportunity to try new foods. Local stores benefit from this financially because importing these goods allows them to offer a vast variety of new foods or products that would not be available if there was not for globalization. One product that was both missing on the shelves of the stores and the prices skyrocketed during the Covid pandemic was surgical masks. The shortage at this time was so bad that there were not enough of them not even for the frontline workers such as nurses or doctors. The majority of the mask factories are located in China and during the first waves of Covid the Chinese government slowed down manufacturing and at the same time they banned exporting them to the United States (Khazan, 2020). This is going better now. Hopefully we will not get a new pandemic because then these scenarios could occur again. Khazan, O. (2020, April 10). Why we're running out of masks . The Atlantic.
