Skin Infections Kids get this, and it's really contagious. It's caused by staph or strep bacteria. It starts out red and, if unchecked, is characterized by vesicles and really nasty looking yellowish crusts. - It's called impetigo. It's the generic name for a number of mycoses, including ringworm, athlete's foot, jock itch, etc. - These infections are called tinea. These are caused by a papillomavirus, creating a papule on the surface of the skin. They're passed via skin-to-skin contact. - warts These are also called furuncles, and they're caused by staph infections of hair follicles. - These are generally called boils. When there's a number of them tha This skin disorder is caused by a mite that burrows into the skin to lay eggs. The hatchlings cause a hypersensitivity reaction that causes the formation of papules, and can lead to intense itching. - This skin condition is called scabies, and it can be spread by skin-to-skin contact, including sexual activity. Vascular and Inflammatory DIsorders of the Skin These are called "bedsores" or "pressure sores," and are due to a lack of blood flow to affected tissues. - Decubitus ulcers often occur in people who are bedridden and unable to move without assistance. As such, they're often seen as a sign of neglect of those in long term care facilities. These are common, raised red lesions, which might indicate an allergic reaction - Hives are also called wheals or urticaria. This is an autoimmune disease that causes hardening (that is, loss of flexibility) of the skin. - This condition is called scleroderma, which means "hard skin." This is a common inflammatory condition of the skin involving crusts, vesicles, and papules. - Eczema isn't a health condition itself, but rather is indicative of some underlying concern, such as an allergic reaction.
