Well, there is so much to know about Caribbean cooking, it’s impossible to describe it in a sentence! From Jamaica to Trinidad and Tobago and everything in between, all the islands have their own unique dishes and cooking styles. Meat is a big feature - and it's often marinated, but there are plenty of vegan or 'ital' dishes too.Fresh fish is readily available and so there are many different fish dishes, particularly on the smaller islands. Caribbean food is packed with herbs and spices from all around the world. Caribbean food has many signature dishes. These are all inspired by a huge mix of ethnicities and local cuisine is very much intertwined with a country’s history. This typical dish is assumed to be native to the Caribbean or Latin America, this dish has roots in the Motherland of Spain. Arroz Con Pollo is a dish of chicken cooked with rice and usually flavored with saffron. Arroz Con Pollo can be served as your everyday basic family meal. In terms of the way mealtime schedules have evolved and been shaped, the Dominican Republic is fairly typical of most of Latin America and the Spanish-speaking Caribbean. In most households lunchtime has shifted to about 1:00 or 1:30 p.m. In fact, in large cities, lunch is not eaten at home at all if all the members of the household are at work or at school. Across the rest of Latin America and the Spanish-speaking Caribbean the lunchtime meal is also eaten between noon and 2:00 p.m. with the possible exception of Mexico, where people tend to eat nearer the middle of the afternoon, as in Spain. Compared to american styled food which is known for being fried with insane amounts of grease. Caribbean food is very rarely oily or deep-fried. In fact, the way of cooking in the Caribbean is one of the healthiest you will find, as they don’t use butter or added oil in their cooking. This is because of how they marinate their meat, which is part of the secret to the Caribbean’s amazing cuisine. Caribbean food is known to be very seasoned and spiced even down to the basic side meals, while american food can lack the extra kick of seasoning. Both come from different regions so many differences do occur.
