You are interviewing for a new position – during your interview with a panel of employees and leaders from the HCO where you hope to work, you are asked how an HCO should deal with these issues. Respond as though you are

How will you handle interspecialty disputes – for example, between orthopedics & imaging; surgery & cardiology; or non-physicians and physicians?
I can assist in resolving conflicts arising from differences in specialties by fostering an open dialogue among all concerned parties, with an objective of arriving at a mutually acceptable solution that addresses the interests and concerns of all.

How will you handle impaired or obstructive clinical staff members?
If clinical staff members exhibit signs of impairment or become obstructive, my approach would
be to take them out of the situation and place them in a calm environment. This would allow them to take a breather and collect themselves. Once they are calm and composed, I would engage them in a conversation to understand the reasons behind the situation and how it escalated. After a thorough discussion, I would explain to them the importance of maintaining professionalism while at work and highlight why it is unacceptable to be impaired or
obstructive. I would then suggest that it may be beneficial for them to take some time off to address the situation before resuming work.
