HPS 402 Chenoweth Case Studies Case Study 1
Comprehensive workplace health program is widely being used as companies face rising healthcare costs. The comprehensive workplace health programs are implemented to strategize employee health and productivity. this program is designed to reach the employees in many different ways such as environmental change, benefits, though workplace policy, and through programs and services available for the employees. The comprehensive workplace health programs are implemented differently for different companies and their employees since each company is different. The strategies used to address the health of employees is different from company to company depending on the needs and interests, resources available, and the health issues that is prioritized in each work environment. It is crucial to know which workplace health strategy best fits for specific company and its workers. Implementing comprehensive employee workplace health program or improving an existing one requires understanding employee health risks at a worksite weather it is shout or long term.
To effectively develop workplace health program, company’s wellness coordinator must do workplace health assessment to gather information about the factors that support or effect the wellbeing of employees at each and every work environment. With the workplace health assessment, it would be easier to identify opportunities in increasing productivity, decreasing health defects, and control health costs for the employees and the for the organization. Completing an assessment is the first step that needs to be completed in terms of resource
allocation, strategy implementation, employee participation, and outcome measuring (n.d, 2015).
There are many factors involved in determining the productivity and the wellbeing of employees and it is important to highlight the factors that influence health at workplace setting. Identifying those factors will enable supportive change in the individual level, interpersonal level, and organizational and environmental level. Employee’s health behaviors, health risk factors such as
chronic diseases and health status are important things to consider at individual level. Interpersonal factors include employee relationships weather its with their manager, coworker, or
their family members. Environmental elements such as work setting, and access to health promotion opportunities provided bring change to employees surrounding community and work environment. Workplace culture, structure, policy practices, and health promotions are also important influencing factors that needs to be considered when identifying employees needs, interests, and when developing effective workplace health programs. Performance Review:
To identify the employees needs and interests in this specific population, we would need to design a performance review for each employee working at the site. The performance review will help evaluate employees work and efficiency. With the design performance, it would be easier to address and understand how employers doing in terms of the job performed, ways to improve while aligning with the company’s’ goals and expectations. This includes the skills and abilities required to perform work tasks. Each employee will then have to fill out a performance review paperwork about their annual performance to better understand problems related to the work they are doing. For example, if someone is
having problem with their work then they would be able to present their problem and discuss about their strengths or weakness on assigned tasks (Shrm, 2020). Additionally,
listen to employees concerns, questions, and suggestions. It important that employers interact with their employees to discuss and solve issues on daily basis. This encourages employees to be open and honest about his/her concerns and problems. Employees will be comfortable presenting their questions and suggestions without hesitation. Telling employees that you are anytime and listen and discuss company’s business could have positive outcome for both the company and employees (Shrm, 2020). Development and Implementation
According to the Society of Huma Resource Management, providing training programs to
employees help employees feel more engages and committed to the work they do and to the organization. Implementing training program provides employees the opportunity of strengthening their skills while gaining an understanding about their responsibility which will enhance their confidence and increase productivity. This method is also used to interview the managers and supervisors to identify certain performance areas that need strengthening and to locate common performance problems. Developing and implementing does not only improve the morale of the workers but also promotes the organizations success and achievements. Employees will eventually become efficient and
more productive with proper training. Training program can also be a method used to understand employees needs and concerns in depth and make changes on their needs and concerns. Additionally, provide instruction to all trainers and the supervisors to effectively implement open door policy and host weekly meetings regarding certain goal achievements and changes (Shrm, 2020).
