Essay On Junk Food
Ban of Junk Foods Candy, chips, juice, and fries! Our favorite foods being snatched from our eyes.
The topic of whether junk food should be banned or not in schools is becoming more controversial
throughout the country. The government has enforced healthy nutritious meals for kids worldwide
due to the rapid spread of child obesity. Junk food should not be banned in schools because junk
food is not considered the number one cause of obesity, it can help build the school financially and
students should have free will to choose what they want to eat.
Contrary to popular belief obesity isn't the number one problem in causing obesity. According to
Jacobs and Carson–Dewitt, "There is little argument that encouraging exercise is a much

This is apparent kids are finding ways to still consume these foods regardless of what the
government or school is saying. In the article Goodbye M&Mś Rachel Snyder says ¨If I want a
surgery snack every now and then I should be able to buy it¨ (Cass and Jalonick 15). Snyder voices
her opinion that she should be able to freely choose what she wants to eat. In the article School
Board May Ease Ban On Junk Food, there is a picture of an organic vending machine with healthier
snacks. The article captions "Garfield High School students walk past the organic vending machine
at the school, leaving them nearly untouched." (Rosenthal 1). With students displaying these actions
it shows how if the kids don't want it they are not going to eat it. The government can not shove
healthy and unappetizing foods in children's faces and expect them to eat it. They want to be able to
choose the snacks they enjoy and want personally. The banning of junk foods is also a major reason
schools are starting to create debt and struggle with funding. For several years a huge part of
school's fundings came from snack sells and vending machines. According to the article School
Board May Ease Ban on Junk Food, "The Seattle School Board is considering relaxing its ban on
unhealthful food in high schools amid complaints from student governments that the policy has cost
them hundreds of thousands of dollars in vending–machine profits

The High Cost of Junk Food Essay
It is 9oclock at night, you went to school from 8am to 12pm and then you went to work from 1pm to
9pm what is the first thing on your mind; cooking, homework, McDonalds or what about just sleep.
This is an average day for me every day and the only thing I think about is getting my shoes off and
just sitting down to relax. I don't feel like standing over a stove or making anything my first thought
is the drive thru for a fast and easy meal
. The time is takes to go grocery shopping compared to
sitting in my car and waiting for my food to be handed to me is a big difference. Consider the
shopping for an hour or two and then you have to go home to unload the groceries you just bought
compared to just carrying a single paper

In the New York Times article, "Is Junk Food Really Cheaper?" By: Mark Bittman, he describes
some possible meals for $15 or down to $9 for a family of four to six just by buying the non name
brand products or buying the products that are dried instead of canned such as beans. Also he points
out that even the poorest of poor can really afford to eat healthier than to stock up on junk food:
"THE fact is that most people can afford real food. Even the nearly 50 million Americans who are
enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (formerly known as food stamps) receive
about $5 per person per day, which is far from ideal but enough to survive."(Bittman) If you really
did your research on shopping for food instead of just buying junk food you would really be
surprised at what $5 really could get for you.
A main excuse that people may use for not cooking dinner is they don't have the time to do it. But in
reality when you come home from work and you sit in front of the television for an hour or two, you
could be cooking a simple meal that takes about 20 minutes.
"The real challenge is not "I'm too busy to cook." In 2010 the average American, regardless of
weekly earnings, watched no less than an hour and a half of television per day. The time is there."
(Bittman)
So all in all I see that junk food isn't really cheaper than at home meals and it really isn't that much

The Quick Solution: Junk Food Studies show that a minimum of 1 in 4 people eat junk food every
single day ("11 Facts About American Eating Habits"). It may appear as a small portion, but in
reality that is almost one billion, seven hundred fifty million individuals who are consuming
processed, fried, and baked foods daily. Even though these foods have no nutritional value and can
lead to different health problems, people would rather eat junk food because of its conveniency and
its way of easing stress. Additionally, due to the popular choice of junk food because of these
reasons, it is common to have developed an addiction to it too quickly, which is another cause of
why people

Compared to ordering from an average restaurant, the waiting time is about 25 minutes per party
("Study Released on Average Restaurant Wait Times"). Just like saving on money, people also want
to save on time. Therefore, they often buy already made or packaged goods that require short
cooking times, or they order from a fast food restaurant. In general, junk food is the quick fix to
being frugal and impatient.
Another cause of junk food over healthy food is due to stress and anxiety. After tireless hours of
work, the human body can feel exhausted and stressed out, these feelings crave junk food.
"Research shows that stress also interferes with hunger hormones, like ghrelin, which controls your
appetite" (Immanuel 1). The weak body is basically asking for energy and is increasing appetite,
therefore it wants high calorie and sugary foods. In addition, when people are under stress they do
not want to add more problems or worries to their lives. In order to reduce this stress, people tend to
put their clean diets on hold and choose to eat for example, a cheeseburger instead of rice and
vegetables for dinner. In the end, they do not think about the consequent of eating unhealthy that
night. The many people who suffer from anxiety use junk food as a self–soother. The taste of sweet
and salty foods can comfort a person, which results in them calming down and being in a better
mood.
Lastly, developing an addiction to junk food is fairly common that one in

Speech On Eating Junk Food
Today we will talk about how to stay healthy to prevent any disease, and also how our food choices
affect our planet. My point of view is that people should stop eating junk food because it's not just
affecting them but also the planet. Many have died due to diseases and also being obese and not only
that, all that junk food people eat is affecting the planet because the way products are made with so
many chemicals. I will be explaining ways to help us be healthy and to help the environment. Many
people still eat junk and it is hard to stop even though it's bad for them, it's so addictive. There are
many ways to stay healthy and to prevent diseases and here is what The Health advice for 2017
suggest," Reduce red meat. Red meat, especially processed meat, contains ingredient––heme iron,
saturated fat, sodium, nitrites, and certain carcinogens that are formed during cooking––that have
been linked to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer" (Health Advice for 2017).
Many of the foods we eat today have so much salt and sugar ,and fat. The best way to stay healthy is
eating fruit and vegetables and fibers in a small portion because if you keep eating a lot of junk food
eventually you're going to get obese and have high blood pressure and lead to diabetes. Many people
still don't understand and the percent of people being obese is crazy. People who are eating too much
junk food are not going to have a healthy life and eventually die sooner than normal healthy
