Reflection 2
One insight gained from this module is the importance of promoting diversity,
communication and collaboration within healthcare teams to efficiently adapt to adjustments
and respond to challenges. The modern healthcare setting is rapidly evolving and it is
important for nurse leaders to establish healthcare teams that can perform flexibly and
cohesively to tackle unexpected uncertainties and challenges. One crucial element of team
building and management is identifying various stages teams undergo and comprehending the
approaches to navigate every stage successfully. Healthcare teams typically undergo stages
such as forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning (
Aquino et al., 2022)
. The
forming phase entails team members knowing each other, while storming phase may entail
power and conflicts struggles as people assert their roles and ideas. Norming stage involves
establishing common norms, values, and goals, resulting in a sense of belonging and
cohesion, while performing phase involves team members collaborating to attain optimal
performance (
Aquino et al., 2022)
. Adjourning phase involves reviewing if the team has met
the outcomes and objectives.
Another key element is identifying abilities and strengths of team members and positioning
them with team goals and job competencies. Effective leaders comprehend that every
member brings unique perspectives and skills, and they utilize the diversity to improve team
performance (Roussel et al., 2020). When leaders identify and value individual strengths,
they can delegate responsibilities and tasks that correspond with every member’s capability,
promoting a sense of motivation and empowerment. Besides, encouraging diversity within
team is important for improving patient care and problem-solving capacity. Diverse
healthcare teams present a range of cultural perspectives, knowledge and experiences that can
result in more innovative and comprehensive solutions. Nurse leaders who embrace diversity
and establish an inclusive setting that promote collaboration and open communication,
enabling team members to share and learn from one another. Such teams are capable of
navigating healthcare issues and complexities, hence improving organizational success and
patient outcomes.
