I really respected the how these camp programs are designed for obese children! They play an important role in promoting health, self-esteem, and overall well-being. This is great, especially for the less fortunate who has a lesser opportunity for exercise and adequate nutrition. Instead of having a personalized structured meal plan, Camp Pocono Trails has a widespread of nutrition, education. They have simple meal plans that promote health like protein,
fruits, and vegetables. Each day a camper will have three meals and two small snacks, and they still incorporate favorite foods like pizza, hamburgers, and pancakes. On their website, they have
a plate layout of what each milk looks like. They consist of protein, grains, fruits, vegetables, and
dairies to make sure that each camper gets the adequate nutrition needed. Camp Pocono Trails has a widespread nutrition education by having simple healthy meal plans and educational sessions on healthy eating habits. Camp Pocono Trails prioritized physical activity, more than nutrition as the main element of the program. When reading their website, it expressed physical activity in every module. They offered a wide range of activities from water sports to team sports
and even outdoor sports. Their physical activities catered to different age, groups and fitness levels, but I think it could have been more structured for weight loss specifically. Although I do like how Camp Pocono Trails had a broader selection of activities to cater each camper, will obesity children participate? Camp Pocono Trails had individual counseling sessions on site to set goals through the program which were personalized for each camper. These goals were tracked throughout the whole program duration. This is very beneficial to the children as they can use this lesson to set goals later in life.
When it comes to nutrition, Kamp K'aana had a more structured meal plan for their campers. They educated their campers on the importance of making healthier food choices, like swapping out junk food for something wholes foods. Instead of including favorite foods that can potentially lead to eating disorders, Kamp K'aana stuck with a more systemized and thought-out approach. You can tell that Kamp K'aana focused more on the root of the problem for this program which is childhood obesity. This is an excellent way to implement healthy habits for when the kids to go home after camp program. Kamp K'aana had enjoyable exercises that promoted strength, training and heart health. They incorporated these physical activities into their daily schedules so the campers can make maintainable lifestyle changes. This is why I enjoyed reading about Kamp K'aana when it comes to the physical activity. Having specific exercises that promote strength training and cardiovascular health for obesity is more beneficial than having team sports like Camp Pocono Trails. Kamp K'aana had broad goals for the entire camp, not individual campers for self-improvement and weight management. This is a great way to educate campers on their how food and physical actively can affect their health and stick with them for future endeavors.
The main goal setting is set an example for the campers to make sustainable lifestyle changes and I believe each camp program play a valuable role in supporting obesity children.
