Question 7.1
Calculation: Percentage Reduction= ((37.5 - 92.85) / 37.58)* 100
a) These 10 solutions represent a 59.6 % reduction of emissions.
10 solutions
1. Abandoned Farmland Restoration 2. Alternative Cement
3. Alternative Refrigerants 4. Bamboo Production
5. Bicycle Infrastructure 6.Biochar Production
7. Biogas for cooking
8.Biomass Power
9.Bioplastics building
10.Automation systems
A solution that interests me is alternative refrigerants.
b) It is expected to reduce 42.73-48.75 gigatons of carbon dioxide by 2050.
c) On a larger scale, many advantages of this solution include decreasing global
warming and reducing waste.
d) Alternative refrigerants can help with adaptation to the effects of climate change in
addition to mitigating it through the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
1.
Energy Efficiency: A lot of alternative refrigerants have higher energy efficiencies,
which can help cut down on greenhouse gas emissions and electricity use. By
lessening the burden on energy resources during times of peak demand or
restricted supply, this energy efficiency can also help in adapting to climate
change.
2. Resilience: By utilizing alternative refrigerants, refrigeration systems can
become more resistant to power outages and other severe weather events that
accompany climate change. By using alternative refrigerants that are less
sensitive to temperature changes or have lower global warming potential,
refrigeration systems can be more reliable.
3. Protection of the environment: Compared to conventional refrigerants,
alternative refrigerants have a lower potential for ozone depletion and global
warming. The ozone layer can be preserved, and the overall effect of
greenhouse gasses on climate change can be decreased by implementing these
substitutes. In order to mitigate the effects of climate change and adapt to it,
environmental protection is crucial.
Question 7.2
a) I decided on "wildfire" as my climate variable. From 1960 to approximately 2056,
the results show that greenhouse gas emissions increase at moderate mitigation
(RCP4.5).
Falling occurs by the year 2060. Less and less land is burned.
Hectares burned reach an average of 32.0 by 2080 under low-emissions
scenarios (RCP8.5), but reach 48.0 under high-emissions scenarios (RCP8.5),
beginning in 2060.
b)
The Impact of Wildfires on Human Health and Energy Production
Wildfires have significant impacts on human society, including detrimental effects
on human health and energy production. In recent years, the frequency and severity of
wildfires have increased, causing chronic exposure to wildfire smoke. Smoke from
wildfires can cause respiratory problems and cardiovascular diseases, especially
among people with compromised immune systems. It can also result in long-term health
impacts, such as lung cancer. Moreover, wildfires have the potential to cause blackouts
and disrupt the power supply, which can have an impact on communities and
businesses that depend on electricity.
Wildfire smoke can have immediate and long-term health impacts on humans.
Short-term effects of exposure to wildfire smoke include headaches, eye irritation, and
respiratory problems. In addition, long-term exposure to wildfire smoke can increase the
risk of lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and other health problems.
Wildfires can also have a significant impact on energy production, with disruptions to
power supply and potential blackouts.
In conclusion, with the increasing frequency of wildfires, the negative impact on
human health and energy production cannot be ignored. Communities impacted by
wildfires face serious health risks from smoke, both in the short and long term, as well
as serious consequences from power outages and disruptions to the supply. It is
imperative to recognize the impact of wildfires on human society and work to minimize
their effects. To solve the problems caused by wildfires, more research is required. This
includes developing techniques for early warning systems and detection as well as
learning more about the long-term impacts of smoke from wildfires on human health.
