Lab Overview:
Together as a group, you will apply your experiences from Lab #5 to answer a series of questions which will gauge your understanding of the revitalization efforts taking place in downtown Kitchener. You will use the tables you made in Lab #5 to examine the most prevalent re-urbanization type in downtown Kitchener and offer insight into the functionality of the Innovation District. Lastly, you will describe your group’s impressions of downtown Kitchener and its revital
ization efforts. Note that your ability to compose exceptional responses depends entirely on your absorption of the information you encountered in preparing for, and taking notes during Lab #5. Learning Outcomes: By the end of this lab, you will: 1.
Practice observing the landscape and draw conclusions from these observations in the field; and 2.
Reflect on the internal structure of the city and its functions including revitalization efforts. Materials Needed: Come prepared to your assigned lab section with the following materials and a positive attitude: •

(~110 min) In Lab #6, you will apply your learnings from the previous lab to answer a series of questions about the revitalization efforts taking place in downtown Kitchener. Your Lab Coordinator will review the instructions for the active learning exercise. You will be given time in the lab to work as a group on answering the following questions due at the end of the session. *A note on groupwork* It is expected that you engage during groupwork. You should be actively contributing to discussion, sharing ideas, and assisting in completing the assignment. Your Lab Coordinator will be circulating to check on your progress. Those not contributing to groupwork can expect a reduced mark. LAB #6 is DUE at the END OF THIS LAB SESSION. See instructions for submitting your assignment below. __________________________________________________________________________________ LAB #6 –
TO BE SUBMITTED FOR GRADING Step 1: Open a Shared Doc with your group members in OneDrive. One group member should download and save the Lab #6 Group Submission Template (available on MyLS) to their computer. Then, login to your Laurier Shared Drive and upload the Template. Open the Template as a Word Document and share it with the rest of your group members via their Laurier student emails. Use the Lab #6 Group Submission Template as a Shared Doc to collaboratively record your responses to the questions below. Your responses should be typed, single-spaced, 12 pt. font, Times New Roman with appropriate paragraphs and the questions numbered. Step 2: Answer the following questions. Using your Lab #5 preparation materials, observations from your field tour, research notes, and any external research you choose to perform, provide answers to the questions below. Please read the questions carefully. If you use external sources in this assignment, you are expected to cite this material using APA referencing style with in-text citations and a reference list at the end. 1.
Discuss your impressions of downtown Kitchener based on what you saw and experienced. Identify whether your impressions were positive or negative and explain your reasoning. Make reference to course content to support your ideas. (3 marks: 1 for identifying and 2 for explaining)

At your tables, you will find a folder of information focused on one specific element or location in Downtown Kitchener

” by the end of
your
assigned lab session. You can submit more than one file to the Dropbox. If you submit multiple versions of a document, the last version of the document submitted will be graded pending it is handed in by the deadline.
Late Assignments: Late submissions will not be accepted and result in a mark of zero. Assessment and Evaluation: In total, this lab is worth 5% of your final grade in this course. You will receive a mark out of 16, see the rubric below. You will receive a group mark for this submission. You will earn up to 1% of your final grade for participation. To receive full participation marks this week, you must actively participate in your lab, contributing to your groupwork. Note: Attendance alone is not participation.
Next Week: In Lab #7, we will explore food systems, with a focus on food security and sustainability. Instructions for Lab #7 will be posted to MyLS by end of day on Thursday February 29, 2024.
