Question 2 1/1pts How do ice wedge polygons form? Ice wedge polygons form between the roots of alpine tundra vegetation, because the ice veins follow the line of the root structure. Ice wedge polygons are simply glacial ice that that melts in a way that gives the appearance of po ygons wnen seen from an alrpiane. Ice wedge polygons form in the Arctic when polar bears break through the ice to hunt When permafrost gets extremely cold it contracts in winter creating a crack. That crack is filled with water in the summer thaw season. The water freezes in winter, and the crack enlarges when the cold forces the ice to contract again. This process happens year-after-year, gradually enlarging the polygon of ice.
