Kasi Milford March 3, 2021 Midterm Professor Steinberg The Geography of today’s world past and present. The different regions of the world are alike yet diverse in many ways. To begin, the continent of North America is vastly diverse. North America consists of Canada, the United States, Mexico and extends all the way down into Panama. Across this continent there are a wide variety of physical regions which include the mountainous west, the Great Plains, the Canadian Shield, the varied eastern region, and the Caribbean. In addition, it may be divided by the Rocky Mountains, Appalachian Mountains, Basin and Range, Coastal Range, and the Interior Lowlands. North America has become one of the most developed regions in the world. Being among the largest and most technologically advanced economies in the world. It mainly encompasses it's economy with the industrial and service sectors. North America benefits greatly from its fertile soils, plentiful freshwater, oil and mineral deposits, as well as forests. With a strong domestic and export economy focused on this overflowing array of natural resources. Labeled as the "birthplace of true democracy", North America was sought after based upon freedom from the already existing beliefs. The United States was originally colonized by the British as 13 colonies but became the 50 states we know today. Canada was originally colonized by the French and later divided into 12 individual large Providences. Canada is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary democracy and federation. A parliamentary democracy is a system of government in which citizens elect representatives to a legislative parliament to make the necessary laws and decisions for the country. In Canada, the lead of the political party that wins the most seats in parliament becomes the prime minister. By comparison, in a presidential
system such as the one in place in the United States, voters elect members of Congress to serve in the legislative branch of government and choose the head of the government, the president, separately. Presidents are limited to serving two terms, but there are no terms limits for members of Congress. The first North Americans are believed to have migrated from Siberia, in northeast Asia, by crossing a land bridge over the Bering Strait. North America is considered to be the third largest continent and has the fourth largest population size. The outstanding majority of North America's diverse population comes from immigrants or descendants of immigrants from other world regions, especially in the United States where we are called a "melting pot" due to the overwhelming combination of diversity we have. The most formative aspect about North America's historical geography is that there. The physical geography of Middle, Central, and South America is centered around Latin America. Latin America includes four distinct regions which include Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, and South America. Middle America is a narrow-tapered region which also lies between the Isthmus of Tehuantepec and Isthmus of Panama. Middle America has the majority of its hazards caused by plate tectonics along with the Caribbean plate. Central America’s natural vegetation is scattered amongst a large variety. Tropical rainforests consume the eastern lowlands, meanwhile evergreen forests cover the lower slopes along the Pacific coast, and pine and oak forests grow along the somewhat higher elevations. Much of Central America’s timberland, however, has been cleared by slash-and-burn cultivators, who move on when the soil is no longer of quality use to them. South America, the fourth-largest continent, extends from the Gulf of Darién in the northwest to the archipelago of Tierra del Fuego in the south. Situated on the far western edge of the continent, the Andes stretch from the southern tip to the northernmost coast of South America.
There are hundreds of peaks more than 4,500 meters (15,000 feet) tall, many of which are volcanic. Latin American economy is an export-based economy consisting of individual countries in the geographical regions of North America, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. Though historically speaking, Latin America has always been more of an export-based region of the world, over time, these countries have focused on efforts to integrate their products into global markets. While Central America does not have a formal government, Central America has a critical place for its political geography Honduras. The issue with Central America in the seemingly never-ending aftermath of the years of internal conflict and natural disaster. Thankfully today we can find that most of the countries in this region have established democratic institutions, and a potential return to an authoritarianism is highly unlikely. As the last, but most certainly not least, we can examine Europe as essentially the mother country in a sort of way. Though it is the second-smallest continent, Europe extends from the island nation of Iceland in the west to the Ural Mountains of Russia in the east. Europe's most northern point is the Svalbard archipelago of Norway, and it then reaches as far south as the islands of Greece and Malta. Because Europe is surrounded by water, it can be labeled as a peninsula, the physical geography has distinct regions, specifically four, Northern European Plains, Wester Uplands, Alpine Mountains, and the Central Uplands. Europe receives extremely high amounts of rain early in the year. This creates the perfect habitat for landslides to form. Europe was the first of the major world regions to develop a modern economy based on commercial agriculture, industrial development, and the provision of specialized services and is a free-market economy based on the movement of capital. Europe's rich agricultural and industrial diversity has made the continent a center of trade and commerce for centuries. While Europe’s

political Geography was changed multiple times. In World War I, after World War I, World War II, and when the Soviet Union gained mass control, and the collapse of the Soviet Union’s control. But Europe has the establishment of political parties that had to fight for their lives and countries that were cast out from the core of Europe. Europe has a long history of human development, political parties, and is the birthplace of western civilization. Today, many Europeans are secular, or nonreligious, however, religion has played a major role in the development of Europe. Christianity is the most popular religion in Europe, but Judaism and Islam are two other religions practiced across Europe with many followers living together in the large cities. Overall, we can magnify many aspects of all parts of our world in many ways. While we all have our immense differences among one another there are just as many ways in which we are anything but different. As geography advances, I feel that the unity between the various parts of the world will as well.
