Report
Global Warming Essay GEO 200 Scientists have come to a consensus that humans are 97% of the reason why the earth is heating up.  The scientific consensus is when most scientists within a certain field agree on one notion.  One of the primary reasons for climate change is the use of fossil fuels.  Nasa describes climate change by using a graph, then John cook and Naomi wrote two separate articles on climate change expressing their notion on climate change.   The first piece of evidence I want to talk about is the graph NASA (national aeronautics and space administration) made a graph with a short paragraph on why humans are the main reason climate change is happening.  Within the short paragraph, NASA states the main reason is the “human burning of fossil fuels”.  NASA also uses quotes from other scientific associations such as the American Association for the Advancement of science, or scientific academies like the U.S. Global change research program. Within the graph, it is noticeable that since 1920, there has been a noticeable change in our temperature, about 1 degree Celsius. Naomi Oreskes created an article called “The scientific consensus on climate change” on climate change and why people were disagreeing with the main consensus.  Naomi Oreskes is a professor of the history of science at Harvard University.  Naomi talks about the IPCC’s (intergovernmental panel on climate change) conclusion on the topic.  The IPCC’s conclusion is that “the observed warming of the last 50 years is likely to have been due to the increase in the greenhouse gas concentrations”  John Cook is a researcher at the climate change communication research hub. John Cook wrote an article “Deconstructing climate science denial”.  This article talks about how scientists will deny the notion of global warming, Cook refutes their denials with basic evidence and strategies. One of the strategies used was the Denialist Rhetorical strategy.  Cook also explains
reasons why people may deny global warming or climate change. Cook explains Logical fallacies, impossible expectations, cherry-picking, conspiracy theories, and more in his thirty- page paper.  To conclude Cooks' paper, he denies the disbelievers and gives proof of why the nonbelievers have false faiths. To conclude, John Cook, a researcher at the climate change communication research hub, and Naomi Oreskes, a professor of history of science, NASA, and IPCC have all come to the census that humans are the main cause of climate change. NASA states that fossil fuels being burned are the main cause of carbon emissions leading to the concentration of greenhouse gases increasing. Bibliography
