According to video ten Human Population Growth-Crash Course Ecology #3,
what type of growth are humans currently experiencing? What advances lead to this type of growth? How long can it continue, and how will we know when we reach or exceed our carrying capacity? What is an ecological footprint, and how is it used to measure resource use? How large is our country’s footprint, and why? Why is our country’s growth rate decreasing, and will it be enough to keep us from reaching carrying capacity?
5/5 Very good!
The world's human population is currently experiencing exponential growth even though human reproduction is far below its biotic potential. Humans have increased the world's carrying capacity through migration, agriculture, medical and technological advances, and communication. The age structure of a population allows us to predict population growth. We won't be able to keep growing forever, but soon we'll reach or even exceed the planet's carrying capacity. Depletion of available resources, environmental deterioration, and heightened competition for resources are indications that we may have reached our carrying capacity. A population's or an individual's ecological footprint is a measurement of the number of resources and land needed to maintain that lifestyle. It considers things like energy use, transportation, and food consumption. Due to high levels of consumption and a reliance on fossil fuels, our nation has a comparatively big carbon footprint. Due to urbanization, changing cultural views regarding
family size, and access to birth control, our nation's growth rate is slowing down. It is questionable whether this decline will be sufficient to keep us from hitting carrying capacity, because it depends on several variables, including resource availability and trends in world population
