1 2-1 Journal: Financial Statement Green Bay Packers Kashawn Hernandez
2 Balance Sheet The Green Bay Packers are a team part of the National Football League. They are in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The head coach of the Green Bay Packers is Matt Lafleur and the General Manager of the team is Brian Gutekunst. As of today, the Green Bay Packers have won a total of 4 championships in the NFL in the years 1967, 1968, 1997, and 2011. The balance sheet is focused on is from 2022 through 2023(Broadridge annual report Green Bay Packers). According to Broadridge, there is always a yearly annual report and in this annual report, the treasurer includes the balance sheet. In 2022, Green Bay Packers’ total assets added up to a combined total of $1,287,045 (in thousands) which includes $623,342 (Cash & investments), $177,056 (Unamortized signing bonuses, net), $387,178 (Property & equipment, net), and $99,469 (other). Meanwhile, in 2023, the Green Bay Packers’ total assets added up to a combined total of $1,356,571 (in thousands) which includes $583,424 (Cash & investments), $197,887 (Unamortized signing bonuses, net), $454,655 (Property & equipment, net), and $120,605 (other). On the other hand, when it came to displaying the Liabilities & Equity the total for 2022 in thousands was $1,287,045 and for 2023 the total was $1,356,571. Throughout the Liabilities and Equity section, there is a breakdown of debt, compensation liabilities, other liabilities, and equity. All of these are considered liabilities when it comes to analyzing the balance sheet of a company. Assets are things that a company owns, and they can be sold or used by the company to make products or provide a service that can be sold (Beginners’ Guide to Financial Statement). Liabilities are considered money that a company owes to others, and they can also include obligations to provide goods or services to customers in the future (Beginners’ Guide to Financial Statement). Equity is money left over if the Green Bay Packers sold all their assets and
3 paid all their liabilities. They can give it to their shareholders or owners of their company. When it comes to a balance sheet the total assets must be balanced with the total liabilities and equity. As one can see this is the reason for the total assets being the same amount as the total liabilities and equity. Income Statement The income statement is a report that shows how much revenue a company earned over a specific period (usually a year or some portion of a year) (Beginners’ Guide to Financial Statement). In other words, it displays the financial activity of a company eventually showing how they arrived at their profit throughout the period. For the Green Bay Packers, they have done a good job maintaining their revenue. The income statement is looked upon as walking downstairs as in each line on the statement money is being taken away from the revenue which is the total amount of money brought in from the Green Bay Packers’ sales throughout the year. In the year 2023, the total revenue of the Green Bay Packers on their income statement was $610,274 (in thousands). As one continues to look at the income statement there are the expenses which include player costs ($294,192), Team costs ($61,522), Sales, Marketing & Fan Engagement ($73,849), Facilities costs ($28,328), and General & administrative costs ($183,734) which added up to a total expense cost of $541,625. After this is taken into consideration and we subtract total expenses from total revenue we get profit from operations which is the profit left over before interest and income taxes ($68,649). Finally, the Green Bay Packers must calculate the investment gains(losses) as well as the taxes and subtract them from the profit from operations ($68,649). When all the calculation is conducted the Green Bay Packers end up with a net income (which is another way of saying net earnings) of $35,582 (in thousands).
