Annotated Bibliography
Foundation, J. (2023, April 28). Understanding social media use and balance: Jed. The Jed Foundation. https://jedfoundation.org/resource/understanding-social-media-use-and-balance/
In my paper, I argue that social media makes people feel less connected from reality, creating more negatives than positives. The arguments I make are that social media has contributed to a rise in suicide, depression, and mental health issues. The Jed Foundation elaborates the negatives
of social media, including cyberbullying, as well as leading to eating disorders and body dysmorphia. (

One massive example of FOMO in social media are Snapchat streaks, which I personally was a victim of during my teen years. The fear of missing

The authors of this book, Greg Lukianoff and Johnathan Haidt discuss the impact of social media
on the mental health of college students. As a college student myself, who at times finds themselves overwhelmed with the workload or the criteria, indulging into social media and seeing others ahead of you in their degree and career leads to the pressure of feeling like you are behind in life or need to do more. The author of this book, Jean Twenge, discusses the shifts in behavior in the newer generations of kids, due to the increased use in technology, specifically through smartphone and social media
usage. The rise of TikTok has reached the younger generations, often imitating what they see in the videos. TikTok is not regulated, and often younger children may come across sexual or explicit content, further bolstering the negatives of social media. (2017, March 6). 1.
Accurately recording bibliographic information is essential and saves you time, as you can transfer this information to the References page of your drafted essay. Each
source entry should include a brief summary of the source as well as 3-4 sentences describing how you intend to use that source to build or support your argument. Discuss how your annotated bibliography meets these criteria.
Reading your sources and confirming the credibility of the information within them creates for a more credible argument on your end. Each source should give context to the point you are trying to argue, and should be convincing and evident. Furthermore, the usefulness of a source gives you content to write your paper.
2.
Which strategies were most helpful for you when searching for credible sources?
I did a lot of research online before selecting my sources. Finding an author’s bibliography to see what other works they had produced was my first step. Using verified
sources with information done through studies backed by the government was my next strategy. Finally, making sure any claims in the article were backed by research or sourced within itself for a factual purpose.
3.
What difficulties did you face while searching for credible sources?
The biggest difficulty I had was finding articles that supported only my point of view, and not discussing a counterpoint/counter argument to the point I was trying to make. Ensuring the statistics listed were correct was one of my biggest difficulties, since

different authors do different studies and the results generally are not consistent across articles.
