Title of Your Proposal Goes Here
The introduction to your proposal should be the first paragraph following the title of the paper. It is not necessary to write “Introduction” as a heading because APA style considers this to be the understood heading for content immediately following the title on the first page of the narrative. Remember that this paragraph is a simple introduction to your proposal. For the proposal in EDUC 5470 and EDUC 5910, you should use the student paper template provided in APA 7. Area of Focus
Within this paragraph, you will describe the purpose of your study. Most of the time this begins with “The purpose of this study is to…”. Be careful that you are not using anthropomorphism in this paragraph as it is easy to do. This means avoid giving human action to non-living objects. The study cannot explore; but, the purpose of the study can be to explore your
area of focus. This section should be no more than 2 paragraphs. Explanation of Problem
In this section of the paper, you should describe the problem that is present in your mileu.
This is where you write your problem statement for your research proposal. Think of this part of the explanation as an elevator speech related to your problem. It should be concise and give the main idea of your problem. The subsections will describe the details of the problem itself. Problem Background
This is a subsection of the explanation of the problem and should have a Level 2 heading per APA guidelines. Within this section, you will describe the background of the problem by

telling the reader about how the problem has evolved. What makes it a problem? You might describe your problem globally, nationally, and then locally. Remember to use oxford commas as
they are required by APA. This is the comma located before “and” in a series. Prior Interventions
In this paragraph, you will describe prior solutions that have been attempted in relation to
your problem. Use this space to tell what is currently happening to address the problem or what is lacking in the current program based on stakeholder feedback. Remember to write in complete sentences and avoid comma splices. Two independent clauses separated only by a comma creates
a run-on sentence and are not grammatically correct. You should write the first sentence, and you
may join it with another related sentence using a comman and conjunction. Or, you may write the sentences separately. Use end punctuation like a period to signal the end of the sentence.
Literature Review
In your literature review, you should explore the research related to your area of focus. This is not an annotated bibliography, and it is not a research paper. It is critical in your literature
review to determine where sources intersect and make sense of this information. Synthesize the information that you find about your topic. The literature review should begin with a broad, but concise overview, and continue with subtopics of your research topic. First Subtopic Here
Here, you will write more about your literature review. For example, if your area of focus
is apples, you may choose to write about: (a) Growing Apples, (b) Variety in Apples, and (c) Common Recipes Using Apples. Be careful to cite your references using in-text citations

(Author, date). If Jones and Smith write an article spell out the word “and”. If you found the information related to your topic and decide to include it as a paraphrase (Jones & Smith, date). Level 3 Heading
If you have another topic that is within one of your subtopics, you may find that you need
a Level 3 Heading. This is not likely for most of you. In APA 7, this heading is flush with the left
margin and italicized. Remember that when you are writing a literature review, you should use past tense verbs to describe the research as it has already been published. For example, authors stated that apples were a favorite fruit among American citizens (Cite, ####). Other Things to Remember
Limit direct quotations as they do not show synthesis and significantly increase your similarity score in a plagiarism check. You should only use direct quotes that are necessary to make your point. The quote should be preceded and followed by an explanation for why it is related to the information you are sharing with the reader. Follow APA formatting for quotes and
for block quotes. This is a common error. You may have more than one paragraph within a subtopic. This is acceptable. Remember that the intent of your literature review is to examine the research that is already available about your area of focus and share the main points with your reader. The university requires no fewer than eight scholarly sources to support your work. You should list each source on the reference page. Do not list sources that you do not actually use within the paper. Reciteworks is a web resource for cross-checking this information in your paper. I suggest you use this source just before submitting your proposal draft for the last time in this course. You will want to use it again in the future course where you finalize your research project.

Summary This is a summary of your literature review. It should be brief but recap the highlights for
your reader. Do not write that you believe anything in your research proposal. Language such as that can detract from your credibility in writing. If you took the time to write it in your research paper, the reader can assume that you believe it. Research Questions
The research questions for this study are:
1.
Which variety of apple is the best for taste in an apple pie or cobbler? 2.
What variety of apple is purchased most from the apple farm in Florida?
Population
In one paragraph, you should describe the participants in your study. Include the participant age/grade, number of participants, and who will be included. Use subheadings to address the other participant information.
Justification This should be a short paragraph that tells readers why the participants in your study are reasonable. For example, you should not choose people who are allergic to apples to participate in the study about which variety of apple tastes best in pie or cobbler. Use simple sentences here.
Do not be longwinded.

Ethics
In this section, you should describe the benefits for participants if there are any. Additionally, you should discuss harm and protection; you should tell how you know that participants will not be at risk of harm including informing the participants of the nature of the study, gaining informed consent to participate, allowing refusal to participate or withdrawal without negative actions, and protecting the data and anonymity of participants (Zeni, 1998). If there are potential risks in your study because you are applying experimental measures, these belong here. This is also a place to discuss bias. Data
Data Sources
Describe the sources of data that you plan to use to answer the research questions. Give a rationale for why you believe that this is the data set that will help you to answer the question. You need to describe this for each of your research questions and data sources. Where are the data derived? Are these archival data? Is this new data? What is the instrumentation that will be used? You will likely have 2 or more paragraphs here to describe your data sources. Plan for Data Collection
In this section, you will describe a narrative form of the Written Assignment from Learning Unit 6. This was presented in a table in the coursework. However, it should be in narrative form here. This section is not officially listed in the assignment for Learning Unit 7, but
it should be part of your proposal. Points should not be deducted if this portion of the proposal is not fully developed. The University protocol is to use third person in your writing such as “The

researcher will…”. Ensure that you will be able to obtain consent for participation for your research. How will you gain the consent? Do you have something to send to participants? Summary
This is a section that you will remove when you transfer this information to your final project. Simply state that this research proposal has been prepared as part of EDUC 5470 course requirements and restate your area of focus. Three sentences will be sufficient. Pay attention to the formatting of your reference page. Ensure you use a hanging indent where necessary and that
the title of the page is APA.
