Project Part Two: Persuasive Essay With Research
Recently the topic of negative effects that COVID- 19 has had on mental health has forced us to consider some difficult questions, including how the shortage for professional help for mental health. The amount
of stress, anxiety, social isolation, and economical effects that have come from COVID-19 has highlighted that our current infrastructure needs to be reinforced and reshaped to meet the needs of our current mental health crisis. As we are still left trying to sort through how our mental health services need transformation to conquer the ongoing battle and challenges, we are all left with as well as our surrounding communities. We need to acknowledge that we do in fact need change and the immediate help with mental health is at its highest. As we continue to discuss the ongoing discussion on the impact
that COVID-19 has left on our mental health, it is crystal clear that our current mental health support system is not intact to handle the increasing challenges that have been brought forth from the pandemic. As we see the detrimental effect that the pandemic has had on mental health now more than
ever it needs to be strengthened for individuals and communities navigating the enduring consequences of this global crisis. One key focus point is addressing the major gaps that lies within our mental health services and focus on
strengthening the gaps this will ensure a start to a more adequate and adaptable system to help with navigating the stress, anxiety, social isolation, and economical effects that we have all been subjected to. According to the Mental Health Analysis During Pandemic “A considerable high number of people in multiple countries have gone through some level of mental illness during the three long years, and the present condition is no better. According to the reports about 4 in 10 adults in the U.S. showed symptoms of anxiety or depressive disorder during the pandemic, where the number was one in ten adults from January to June 2019” (Upama et al., 2023). As we recognize the limitations of our existing mental health services, we can start to build off that and make a better well-rounded mental health service for ourselves and our community. While some may argue that they can identify and relate to mental health issues in themselves as well as they are silent about their problems to not to be a burden on anyone. Silence can be a very costly effect as they are left carrying the mental health issues that can lead to increase anxiety, isolation, and depression. To achieve a reduction in mental health issues, we need to explore alternative approaches to ensure affected individuals have access to the essential resources necessary for improvement. Another way in which the urgent reassessment and fortification of mental health services will alleviate the identified shortcomings in the existing infrastructure is by implementing targeted reforms that address specific deficiencies with our mental health services. By acknowledging and rectifying these deficiencies, the mental health support systems can become more resilient and better equipped to meet the escalating challenges presented by COVID-19 pandemics, fostering a more comprehensive and effective approach to mental healthcare. According to the UN policy release emphasizes that “decades of
neglect have been exposed by the COVID-19 pandemic” in a call for ambitious commitments from countries in the way they treat mental illness, amid a potential global spike in suicides and drug abuse (Malapani,2010) In order to address the key facts that there is not enough mental health resources.
