Initial Contacts
I ended up reaching out to five Marketing professionals for this assignment. I reached out to them using LinkedIn and I focused on finding people who worked in Marketing since that is what I’m interested in. The first was Stuti Dixit a performance marketer working with Google ads. I reached out on February 3
rd and I liked that she has a small following and experience in marketing. I thought she would be a good start and since she had a smaller account she would be more likely to respond. Unfortunately, that was not the case. I then reached out to Becky Boome also on February 3
rd
, who works in growth marketing at a software development company called Meta. She had a lot of connections and glowing recommendations. She also has a large amount of experience in digital marketing which I found in her LinkedIn profile. Next was Christina Datuin whom I also contacted on February 3
rd
. She is
a subscription marketing manager at Roku. I thought she would be a good person to contact. I was drawn to her profile because I am familiar with the Roku brand due to owning some of their products. The last two professionals I recently contacted last week on February 22
nd
, in a last-ditch effort to
get a response for this assignment. Kayla Sadwick is the Chief of Staff at Marketing Millennials a media consulting agency. I liked the look of Kayla’s profile and she seemed like someone knowledgeable about Marketing. She has many certifications and credentials making her a great candidate for a potential interview. Lastly, I contacted Lindsey Patterson the Director of Brand
Marketing at Magnolia. Magnolia has many businesses under its name and I thought having a potential contact who is involved in a constantly growing business would be beneficial. What I learned
A lot of the research I did for each person was done through LinkedIn and looking through the provided links in their profiles. I learned about most of their professional information through their business profile and their business’ LinkedIn profiles. I was able to learn about their work history, any certifications they acquired, and who they are on a professional level. Interview Questions
I drafted up some potential questions to ask them if they responded.
What emerging trends in marketing do you find most exciting or promising?
Can you share a campaign or project you worked on that you're particularly proud of? What made it successful?
What advice do you have for someone looking to start a career in marketing?
What motivated you to pursue a career in marketing, and how did you get started?
What types of marketing projects do you find most engaging or interesting?
How do you think social media has changed marketing?
Research
Upon researching some of the questions I learned a few things. For example, Social Media Influencers have transformed the way marketing is successful. These influencers use their media influence to promote brands and products to their followers which in turn allows some of them to
create their own brands and invest in others. (Karra, S. (2023). Marketing is changing constantly one day there’s a trend then the next it’s gone. It’s important to stay on top of trends to maintain relevance. There a many trends right now that are important to use. A trend called “In-feed Shopping” runs shoppable posts so that the customer can purchase items straight from the post (Brandenburger, A. (2023). Pursuing a career
in marketing is challenging but exciting. Finding a mentor through networking or friends to help guide and support me can be very beneficial when starting out. Also be prepared for change, especially with the evolving number of trends. I will have to do a lot of testing and experimenting with different marketing plans to find one that sticks and even then results take time (Jantz, J. (2022). There is a lot to expect of me but overall it is exciting. Initial messages
I sent the same basic message to each person addressing them and giving them information about
the project they would be interviewing for. Hello (their name),
My name is Rachel Adams, I am an undergraduate Business Administration student at Arizona State University. I am reaching out hoping that I might be able to request a few minutes of your time to conduct a brief interview for a project for my business writing class. The main goal of this project is to strengthen my networking skills and explore different career options. I understand you might be busy, I would love to ask you questions about your career in Marketing as I am researching a career in the field myself. I have a list of questions I can provide you before the interview if it would be helpful. No information would be sent outside of this class and project. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have, and I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you,
Rachel Adams rladam@asu.edu
I’m disappointed I didn’t get any responses so I’m going to continue with this project and try to find people to network with and build my LinkedIn profile so that it’s more professionally appealing. Screenshots
