The article states that plagiarism is when a person presents the words or ideas of another person as his or her own (Moore, 2000). Plagiarism is typically in written form but not always the case. Moore elaborates that plagiarism is deceptive and a form of cheating and deception. Moore explains that there are grades of plagiarism that could occur. Moore explains that there are three grades of plagiarism. Grade A plagiarism occurs when
the person makes a deliberate effort to pass off the work of one or more others as his own. Grade
A plagiarism often takes the plagiarizer time to hide the fact by suppressing all revealing references. This can happen by changing a few words so that it makes it difficult to detect. Grade
A is the worst form of plagiarism. The second form of plagiarism is grade B. This occurs when a person does not make it clear that they are quoting or using a reference. This often happens when
a person is hoping to simply get by with the plagiarism. The last grade of plagiarism is grade C. Grade C is when it is not intended or accidental. It can occur through disorganization by the person or when a person stays too closely to the wording of the original text. Typically, grade C is when a person writing makes errors and it leads to plagiarism. Moore mentioned the penalties for plagiarism and that an educational institution has the right to treat plagiarism how they wish. Students must ensure to avoid plagiarism by quoting properly and citing all references when writing or using others’ words. Moore stresses the importance of acknowledging your sources. If you acknowledge your sources, you will have nothing to worry about.
