1.
The following chart has been created based on the analyzed data of the project cost in
thousands of dollars (Y-Axis) vs. time in months (X-Axis), what kind of chart is this? Explain the
changes in the project cost over time and provide recommendations.

This is a two-dimensional line graph demonstrating the relationship between cost and time, also
known as a Cost-Time or Cost vs. Time Graph. This graph contains upper and lower limits at y =
25 and y = - 25 respectively setting an estimated cost range for the project, as well as time
located on y = 0. The cost is provided by a jagged line which moves from x = 1 to x = 12.
-
The project stays within the limits at all but one point in this duration, at x = 7 it surpasses the
upper limit. I would recommend for the graph to use dashed lines for the upper and lower limits,
as well as possibly the time or naming the x axis time.
-
As for the project, lowering costs during the start of the second half of the project would be
advised to stay in the predetermined cost range.

A project has been assigned to a team of engineers to perform testing for 100,000 CPU.
The
project manager got the following data from the team representing the number of CPU failures
per 1000 trials over 12 months as show in the table below:

Create a histogram that represents the recorded data? Using the data from the table above find
the median, the mean, and the mode for the data. Assist the project manager to explain the
results of failure for the upper management and provide a recommendation to reduce failures.
Mean = 14.5
Median = 12
Mode = 6
-
Due to higher temperatures in the late spring and summer months the CPU’s have a harder time
handling the heat of the weather and operating temperatures. To reduce failure, we could try to
find new coolants to use in our CPU’s, this would cost a lot but could limit the failures in hot
months. We could also keep the CPU in a more controlled environment that is less affected by
outside weather factors. Either path would cause an increase in costs, utilizing research to find
new coolants could be very useful as it can be applied easily to CPU’s so I believe this option
would be most beneficial to the company.

The following scatter diagram represents the risk probability over the time duration of a project.

According to the scatter plot, with probability being the y – axis and time the x – axis, as the
project progresses, the risk probability gradually decreases. This makes sense because as the
project progresses and more tasks are completed, the risk probability only depends on what is
left so as you reduce what needs to be done, the risk reduces as well.
4.
Looking at the network diagram below answer the following: What is the length of the project
assuming that the time duration for each activity is measured in weeks? Identify the critical path
of this project.

This project should take approximately 15 weeks to be completed based on the final task if each
task is completed how it is based in the diagram. If each project was completed individually then
this project would take 25 weeks to complete.
-
The critical path of this project is A, B, C, F, H as it has the shortest and most effective path to the
final task.
5.
Using the following Gantt chart, where was the project when they took that snapshot? Which
task was completed at that point? Which task was marked as late task?
-
At the time of this snapshot the project was 19 working hours in with tasks 1-6 being completed.
The most recent task was digging holes, and the project is now continuing onto installing posts
with cement. Installing posts seems to be the late task as there is a large gap between the 6
th
and 7
th
tasks. It should also be noted that the weekend causes task 7 to be elongated as it occurs
over the weekend.
