Problem-Solving Process
When being trained pilots are taught the DECIDE model to support the decision-making process. While I am flying, the DECIDE model can be very helpful because it is a systematic approach that enables pilots to make a decision in a timely manner. This model can be used in flight when a problem occurs, and the best course of action needs to be determined (Aviation Knowledge, n.d.). The DECIDE model is very similar to the Problem-Solving Process in various ways, but they serve different purposes.
Because it aims to help in decision-making in situations where time may be critical, the DECIDE model is more concise than the Problem-Solving Process. That also explains that, because of the time limitation, in some situations, applying a process for problem solving can be challenging. In addition to time, safety concerns and regulatory requirements can present challenges when implementing such a process to an aviation organization.
Upon analyzing the article for this week, and following the Problem-Solving Process, I was able to quickly determine the goal statement for the article I selected, and on the other hand identifying the problem statement required deeper understanding about the situation. Based on my experience with this week’s activity, one takeaway was how relevant the introduction and abstract can be to the entire article as it includes all the initial steps indicated in the Problem-
Solving Process.
