WEEKLY REFLECTION

1. WHAT WAS I ABLE TO DO WELL THIS WEEK? (i.e. skills, accountability, knowledge, communication, therapeutic relationship, and professionalism):
Adapting to a new environment has been a major and wonderful experience for me. Studying
here at Centennial College as an international student poses a challenge in learning in some ways
that I have never tried in my home country. My communication skills have improved
significantly, although English is not my first language, I gladly welcomed every setback and
embraced the challenge because I needed to be proactive in learning. Aside from that, I was also
able to gain an understanding of the different infection control measures which include hand
hygiene, donning and duffing of PPE, bedmaking with proper body mechanics. In fact, I was
even complimented by Sir Kwaku that I did bedmaking with proper body mechanics well during
our practice in the laboratory. Hands-on experience is really the best way of learning for me
since I was able to apply the theories that I have acquired in lectures. 2. a) WHAT DO I NEED TO IMPROVE IN ORDER TO BECOME COMPETENT?
Although the first 2 weeks was exciting, I realized that I still needed to become more efficient
when communicating with my members especially during group work and activities. As an
introverted person, I find it very challenging to do public speaking and share my thoughts for
everyone to hear because of fear of judgment and misunderstanding. I am fully aware, however,
that to become an effective PSW, I have to possess qualities that are deemed essential in
providing quality care and that includes therapeutic communication. It is easy to say that I will
do my best in improving that skill, but I will need to practice and be more open in order to
deliver what is expected of me. I will remind myself every time about my objectives and main
goal as a professional and competent healthcare provider. b) SPECIFIC ACTIONS/LEARNING I WILL TAKE/DO TO IMPROVE
