English Composition II
“Feedback and Decision-making”
2
I chose to incorporate specific feedback about my argument into my persuasive essay to
strengthen and clarify my main point. I received feedback from my instructor who highlighted
the need for a clear thesis statement and strong supporting evidence that would strengthen my
argument, by disproving counter claims. I made the decision to revise my thesis statement to
make it more explicit and focused. This is what would help develop and further the argument I
had made. Based upon the feedback I received, I also strategically used evidence for disputing
counter claims to strengthen my argument while weakening the opposition’s argument that could
be made against my claim. The research in the case study conducted by (Hung & Diem, 2020)
indicated that “Feedback is considered a source of input that encourages writers to improve their
written work and develop their writing skills”. Using the feedback to make changes by
reorganizing my essay to provide stronger supporting evidence for my argument. The writing strategies that were most effective in supporting my argument, given my
audience, subject, and purpose, were utilizing persuasive language, providing pertinent statistics
and data, and addressing counterarguments. In the case study “
Does Conferencing Feedback
Improve Non-English Majors’ Paragraph-Writing?”
The results showed that conferencing
feedback enhanced the participants' English writing performance through the intervention.”
(Hung & Diem, 2020). Opportunities for students to revise their written work based on feedback
have long been seen as critical to improving their writing skills.
I utilized feedback to enhance my paper by revising my citation and referencing
techniques, ensuring the accurate and coherent integration of sources. To effectively support my
argument for the intended audience, subject matter, and purpose, I employed persuasive
language, incorporated relevant statistics and data, as well as addressing counterarguments. In a

discussion of the benefits of feedback on written work, Thompson cites students who say that
knowing that they will have a 'second chance' makes them more relaxed and willing to be more
exploratory (Raaheim, 2006). Providing students with feedback and the opportunity to revise
their work is beneficial in providing them with experience of discovering their own standards
and becoming more exploratory in their writing process. Feedback is a crucial component of
enhancing students' writing abilities and encouraging them to explore new ideas and
perspectives. It was important for me to incorporate specific feedback about my argument into
my persuasive essay because it can improve the quality and effectiveness of my writing.
