How My Writing Has Changed Essay
My writing styles have changed drastically over the past four years of high school. This memo will explain
how my writing has changed and how my knowledge of writing has improved.
Aspects of My Writing during High School
During my English courses throughout high school, I learned many things from writing simple journals
,
research papers, and a single term paper. During high school, I was laid back and procrastinated for much
of my work. During the latter part of high school when I wrote my term paper my senior year, I found out
that working a little every night writing a few paragraphs helped me out greatly. I was not just throwing
something together just to get the grade and the paper finished. I spent time on the paper and

I do this so the information is true, and also in order from which events have occurred. When I wrote my
term paper my senior year I was well organized. I was required to write about an event in history. I chose
India Uprising of 1877 as the topic of my paper. This topic was not interesting at all, but I chose to write
about it. When I finished writing my thesis and outline, I wrote note cards about the different topics, which
allowed me to gather all my information and organize it in which different events occurred. When I was
finished with the paper, it sounded and read consistently and it all flowed together.
How These Experiences Prepared Me for College Writing
I have written many different types of papers for all of my classes throughout high school. For my science
classes, I have written several labs in the form of essays. Writing the essays was different for me because I
did not really know that science had much to do with writing. It took me a while to gather all the
information I needed to finish my lab assignments. Writing lab reports will definitely help me in my
science courses in the next four years.
The journals I have written came from my four years of high school English. Everyday I came to class
there would be a topic on the board. I took five minutes each day to write about the given topic. It was
brainstorming and giving our input on whatever the topic was. I think

Analysis Of No Edit By Randy Cohen
In his essay "No Edit", Randy Cohen, former writer of the New York Times' "Ethicist" column, addresses
the issue of whether teachers should edit college–application essays for their students. Mr. Cohen, who is
clearly in opposition, also offers a counterpoint to his opinion by including several statements from Jeffrey
Brenzel, dean of undergraduate admissions at Yale. Mr. Brenzels' stance is firmly in the affirmative, "I
would think it foolish of a student not to have an essay proofed for spelling, grammar and syntax by
someone competent to do so. We are not looking to take the measure of writing ability, genius or
cleverness. We simply want to know something about personal outlook and perspective–how a student sees
things or what a

In the business world, these traits are often referred to as "soft assets", intangibles that add value above
what can be easily quantified. Is the applicant shy, outgoing, a natural leader, is he or she responsible,
creative, will the student be an asset to the campus community and even to the college itself; knowing
something about a student's character can help the admissions board make a more informed decision. This
brings me to my most grievous condemnation of editing and of Mr. Brenzels' assertion "...writing ability,
genius and cleverness." are not being critiqued.
The power of the written word, it is something I believe in; and having read an essay, I can not believe that
anyone, even a college admission officer, could entirely separate their personal opinion of the essay from
the academic worthiness of the student. Unlike oral traditions, the written word has stability, portability and
permanence, the same piece of work may be read and reread exactly as it was first written. Writing allows
us to make our thoughts visible to others; it gives us the ability to express and explain complex events,
emotions, and situations. Words can wound, they can inspire, they can inflame a populace to revolution or
assuage them to lasting peace; they give voice to those who would be silenced, preserve our fondest
memories and offer the only true freedom some

Analysis Of Colson Whitehead's 'The Loser Edit'
In Colson Whitehead's thought–provoking piece The Loser Edit, the author introduces the contrasting ideas
of "loser edits" and "winner edits", names given to the processes used by TV producers in order to make
winners and losers make sense to the audience. Particularly in paragraphs seven through twenty,
Whitehead's usage of rhetorical strategies––namely rhetorical questions and syntax–– effectively
establishes and develops his position on both "edits". By using the aforestated rhetorical tools, Colson
Whitehead competently creates a compelling essay. One of the rhetorical strategies used often and
effectively by the writer in order to develop his opinion on loser and winner edits is rhetorical questions. A
prime example of this

We present pasted together parts of our lives to the public, parts of our lives that make us look like winners,
likable people. Again, Whitehead helps readers visualize this process through posing questions."'Should I
wear glasses in my profile pic?'... 'Do you think it's working?' 'Did you get away with it today?'... 'Why do
you think they call it Survivor?'" (Whitehead 415). The rhetorical questions, again, help his audience to
picture themselves going through the same process as the producers, making an obvious winner out of
themselves. Whitehead also alludes to a popular reality show, Survivor, in which loser and winner edits are
present every episode. This allusion helps readers to compare the processes they go through daily to those
of the producers. They string together parts of their lives just as parts of contestants' lives are strung
together to form clear story arcs. Through the use of rhetorical questions, Whitehead clearly engages his
audience and has them reflect on their own tendency to "edit" events in their lives. Another one of the
rhetorical strategies used frequently by the author that effectively develops his opinion on loser and winner
edits is syntax or sentence variety. Throughout Whitehead's piece, he uses simple sentences and more
complex sentences in succession, effectively keeping his writing lively and impactful. A prime example of
this is on the bottom of page 415, "Splice and snip. The contradictory

College Essay On Film Editing
Editing is one of the most important parts of filmmaking. Film Editing is one of my favorite things to do.
But let's get to the point. I have recently graduated from a recognized film school and I just created a short
film that goes viral. I am anxious for a TV/ film production company to see my produced video. Or if that
doesn't work you make ads to get your name out there for local job openings, or recruitments. Well no one's
interested in an award winning filmmaker! A production company with standards is not going to consider a
student who just graduated from a film school. A degree in law, master's or engineering degree all are bait
for finding a job easily. Sure I may know how to block a scene, move a dolly, edit, correct colors and mix

Essay About My English Class
I can remember seeing that I had to take an English class my first semester of college. I was already
overwhelmed with starting college, and having to write college essays made me get even more nervous. I
sat down with my mom and decided to look at the English classes available, and I finally decided that I had
to take an evening class to make it work in my schedule. The first day of English came and now looking
back it was not as bad as I thought. It made me a better writer and be where I am today. It may have taken
me some time to get where I am today, but at least I am on the right track. English Composition helped me
realize that I am my own author and have strengths that I did not realize I had. When I first started college I
did not know what to expect with an English class. I liked writing about topics that interested me, but high
school did not allow me to do that. I took American History and we would have to write

I learned many techniques from my professor. He helped me realize that it is okay to have your own
opinion as long as you back it up. He showed me that I am an author when I did not think I was. He also
told us to read our essays out loud when we proofread, and I always did this technique before submitting all
my essays. I can remember having to write my first essay and I was scared, because I felt like I had to get a
good grade. I started thinking about what tools I could use to help me, and I decided to go to The Learning
Center to help with my essay. When I went there they would make edits to my essay and then explain what
I should change. The tutor noticed I used multiple choppy sentences and commas in spots there should not
be. Sometimes I would even go twice to make sure I did not miss any minor mistakes. Going there helped
me feel more confident as a writer and I learned from my mistakes. I had many helpful techniques from
multiple people that shaped me into the writer I am

Genome Editing Essay
Introduction
Genome editing is a huge leap forward in science and medicine. Because of recent advances in technology,
the study of genes and induced 'point' mutations have led to the discovery and advancement of methods
previously used in order to mutate genes. The development of Clusters of Regularly Interspaced Short
Palindromic Repeats (CRISPRs) and CRISPR associated system 9 protein (Cas9) technology is a hugely
significant leap forward as this is a tool that could potentially be used for the research into and hopefully
the treatment of a range of medical conditions that are genetically related. Cystic fibrosis (Schwank, G. et
al, 2013), haemophilia and sickle cell disease are an example of some of the conditions that have the

, a cut would be made to eliminate and destroy the invaders. 83%
of archaeal genomes and 45% of bacterial genomes (Shabbir, M. et al, 2016) were shown to be able to
successfully utilize the CRISPR Cas9 system. These are very promising statistics, so it is no wonder that
there has been such an advancement in the past few years to bring this technology to eukaryotic cells,
mammalian cells and eventually human cells.
With the rate and volume that new experiments and experimental procedures are being tried and tested, it
can be expected that a Nobel Prize will soon be won for the discovery and advancement of this potential
life–saving 'tool'. The category of Nobel Prize and who it potentially should be awarded to are discussed
later in this essay.
The Role of CRISPR/Cas9 as a Genome Editing Tool
There are three types of CRISPR systems. The Type II CRISPR system (where the interface is mediated by
a single large protein in conjunction with crRNA) is the simplest of the three and it is this one that has been
the basis for genome editing.
The Cas9 protein is an enzyme that effectively acts as a pair of molecular 'scissors', cutting

Edith Grotberg Theory Of Resilience
The American Psychological Association (APA) defines resilience as "the ability to adapt well to adversity,
trauma, tragedy, threats, or even significant sources of stress" (APA 2011). According to Edith Grotberg, a
developmental psychologist, "Resilience is important because it is the human capacity to face, overcome
and be strengthened by or even transformed by the adversities of life" (1995). Resilience is the ability to
remain positive in the face of adversity, which is not the same as not having distress or denying it (Music,
2011). Developing this capacity relies on protective factors within individuals as well as in the family and
community. Research has emphasized the importance of early childhood as a time for promoting

My composing techniques have slightly changed since I began this course, I learned the important aspects
of using a rough draft. At the beginning of this semester I would spend more time writing down my
thoughts on a paper then organizing my thoughts within the rough draft. I learned that it is ineffective for
me to just write down my ideas on a paper with no purpose because I tend to jumble my words. By

Edith Wharton's Use Of Setting
When one hears the word "winter", one might think of a cold, peaceful environment. In the beginning of
the novel, the wintery environment present in Starkfield, Massachusetts has an elegant and appealing
nature. However, Edith Wharton reveals how this seemingly peaceful environment can twist a whole
community and provide an unpropitious future for the residents there. By using the theme of winter,
Wharton attempts to create a tranquil setting; however, as the story progresses Starkfield begins to turn into
a bleak, ironic setting that buries each characters desires and dreams. Wharton uses the subject of winter to
create a sensation of irony. When the narrator first enters Starkfield, Massachusetts his first impression is

A Journey Summary
"A Journey" is a short story written by Edith Wharton in 1899 as part of her collection of short stories
called "The Greater Inclination." This short story is about a wife and husband traveling from Colorado to
New York. They travel in turmoil, due to the husband being very sick. He consequently dies, leaving the
wife to reach New York on her own, while at the same time, covering up the death of her husband so she
does not get booted off the train. While on the train, the wife has several encounters with the porter and
passengers, in which she begins to falter and hesitate when talking to them. In "A Journey," Edith
Wharton's use of tone and imagery revolving around the wife, conveys the negative impact the death of a
husband has on a woman to interact with others in a calm manner.
One person the wife struggles to interact with in a calm manner is the porter because through the tone and
imagery revolving around the wife when talking to the porter, it shows how the porter's presence causes her
to struggle defending herself. The first contact between the wife and porter occurs when the porter begins
checking up on the passengers to see if they needed any help. He ends up startling her. The wife then looks
at the porter helplessly, while his smile almost corrupts her speech. The porter starts by saying, "Are you
very tired?" followed by the wife replying, "No, not very." The porter then says, "We'll be there soon now."
The wife responds with "Yes, very soon." (Wharton 418).

The Truman Show Essay
The Truman Show
Utopia – A perfect world. Truman's world was an utopia. Everything, including the weather, was controlled
in a huge Hollywood dome. Truman grew up having no idea he was being watched every hour of the day,
and that every step he took was being viewed by millions all over the globe. As the show progressed, it
became clear how much media influenced Truman's life, and also how Christof played a huge role in
Truman's well–being.
First, the influence of media affects our lives in many ways. As The Truman Show ran 24/7, there were no
commercials. Therefore, the show had to generate an income by advertising products to the viewers. For
example, when Truman's wife showed off her recent purchase, a Chef Pal, she

grew up thinking it was his fault. Because of Christof's planning of the death, Truman was always scared of
water. The only way off of Seahaven was by boat, therefore Christof knew he would be able to keep
Truman under his control. Christof also did a good job of increasing his audience numbers. When viewers
saw the heart–felt moment of Truman reuniting with his father years later, the number of viewers increased.
Christof made the scene stand out by changing camera angles and playing background music. In addition,
since Truman wanted to make his way to Fiji, Christof strategically planned different events in order to
slow Truman down so he wouldn't leave the island. An example of this is when Truman went to purchase a
plane ticket, but the flights were all sold out for over a month. Also, when the bus he was going to ride
broke down. This proves that Christof manipulated Truman for his own purpose. Christof controlled
everything in Truman's life from the weather to who Truman was going to spend his life with. All these
points prove how Truman was being used for Christof's benefit; to increase the show's ratings and to gain
an income.

Ethiopia Essay
Ethiopia
It stands as one of the oldest nations of the world, dating back to 1000 BC when the Queen of Sheba visited
King Solomon. Ethiopia was a nation with promise, a nation with riches and the greatest Ivory market as
far as the eye can see. So one would assume that Ethiopia is the place to live. Well if you have been to
Ethiopia you would see this is not the case. Ethiopia is a povershed country where people are fighting to
live everyday. There economy is nearly in ruins and there main export, is almost stolen from them. But the
promise that Ethiopia had when the Queen of Sheba visited King Solomon is still there. But in order to

The current climatic trends have caused food availability to be very short countrywide. The lack of rain

Symbolism In Ethan Frome By Edith Wharton
In the novel Ethan Frome, written by Edith Wharton, there is a large amount of symbolism. The symbolism
allows the characters to express themselves clearly and help the reader understand who they are and how
they feel. The red pickle dish, silence, and the color red are all symbols that do not have literal meaning,
but represent other important themes or ideas in the novel. The red pickle dish is an important symbol in
this novel. The red pickle dish is important because it represents the Zeena and Ethan's marriage and how
Mattie got between them. Zeena had received a red pickle dish on the day that she and Ethan were married.
One day, Mattie took the pickle dish down from its usual spot and during dinner the cat backed into it and
the dish shattered on the floor. The pickle dish could not be fixed, which symbolizes that Mattie has
destroyed Ethan's and Zeena's marriage, and that it can never be put back together again, like the pickle
dish. While Zeena was

Ethan's silence is a main symbol in Ethan's life. Silence is a symbol for Ethan's cowardly actions. All he
wants is laughter and loudness, but he is unable to make that happen. When ever Ethan tries to express his
love for Mattie, he falls short. Ethan is very much in love with Mattie, but fails to show it. Ethan is a
coward when it comes to making moves with Mattie. When they were alone together, they did not do
anything, or advance their relationship in any way. When Ethan talks to Mattie, its his goal to try to say
something extreamly romatic to win over her heart. But he says something like "come along." Ethan is also
silent when it comes to Zeena. Zeena took care of Ethan's mom while she was sick, and Zeena completed
him. She was loud, but got silent when Ethan married her. Ethan's mother died, and in a sense, so did
Zeena. Zeena became sick and silent, which weakened her relationship with Ethan. Zeena was no longer

Writing is way that we can express ourselves, it is a way to interface ideas and thoughts and to prove a
point. Throughout my writing experience or process I have struggled with writing especially using details
or really expressing myself my work. In this course Facts & Fiction: Portraits in World Art I expect to gain
more knowledge on how to write a perfect essay
, story, letter, and assignment. I expect to learn new genres
and rhetorical situations. I also think my writing will improve academically and I will develop my skills in
writing. Also taking my writing to a different point of view, level, and writing something different rather
than the usual. I look forward to getting feedback from my peers and learning their thoughts on my writing
and how they can help me improve.
Reading and writing were two things my parents use to always push me to improve and work on more
often. They always told me they are the essentials of everything thing. Even though I disliked both at a
young age as I grew older I preferred writing because I can always change the way I write and write from
my point of view, really be creative with it and prove my point. Growing up I always loved writing short
stories especially scary stories. I always was creative with them and even made them realistic. To write an
essay I usually have a couple of steps writing an outline, and the thesis a draft and finally a final draft. The
most difficult part about this is writing the thesis because the whole essay revolves the thesis because it
summarizes the whole essay. At the end of some essays, I had to use citations to do that there were many
websites that helped me cite sources such as easybib which was a really simple process. So, citing sources
was one of the easiest things about writing the essay.
Writing to a teacher is way more complex then writing to a fried or a family member. Writing to a teacher
is way more complex, I must make sure that everything is on point or it reaches the state of protection.
Which is having the right format, a great thesis and really conveying the point of the essay. Writing to a
friend or a family member is much easier I usually don't focus on grammatic errors or writing a perfect
thesis. Today some of us don't

My Video Editing Experience
A long time I decided to live the zombie life as a video editor and during that time I had to experience a lot
of workflow to get good at it. In the beginning of learning it was difficult and there were so many different
programs to edit with, but during the time I did not know about which were professional or not. For
example, when I first started I used a program called Window Movie Maker, and without doubt it was not
very useful since there were only limited tools that the program holds; Since I did not know any better at
the time I easily continued to work with the program for a couple months, which was the most difficult
start of my experience. For example, there were obstacles such as slow render, 15 effects or less, and very
rigid transitions from clips to clips. When it came to actual editing
, I was amateurish as well, but that's
normal for anyone that's new to a hobby that they want to learn by experience; The way I synched the
lyrics or beats to my clips were off at first, as well as the quality, which was poor. In fact, I did not even
know how to discover a source to download the type of footage I worked with at the time. After 3 or 4
months of editing, I finally made my first friend that does the same hobby as me, and he then helped me
locate high quality clips. My friend was from Germany and of course I was from the United States, so we
both helped each other grow as editors as time passed, even as it was difficult we had fun

Wikipedia as a Credible Source
Wikipedia– is it a credible and valid source of information?
Wikipedia is a free online encyclopedia. It contains millions of articles and depends mainly on volunteers
and contributors to ensure that information are up to date. This is an open source that anyone can add and
edit articles; so information may not always be accurate. It is the quickest and easier way to gain general
knowledge on a specific topic. An encyclopedia is generally not a good source of reference in a paper;
rather it can be a starting point in research the topic. The issue of reliability and credibility arises because
of lack of credentials of editors, including biased view in content, articles are not peer–reviewed before
publishing, source cited may be invalid,

Also if the editor misunderstands or misinterprets the concept of the topic, the article is left unreliable and
invalid because the meaning of the topic is different from the facts. To avoid biased articles, any editor that
believes passionately about one–side of a topic should not post update the contents Wikipedia, thereby
preserving the integrity of the topic. Style and tone in most articles on Wikipedia are poor written and lacks
clarity. This is a result of numerous volunteer editors on the same topic and improper integration of updates
in the article. Articles on Wikipedia are generally not geared toward a specific audience because experts
and non–experts on the topic contribute to its content, thereby losing it tone.
Advantages of Wikipedia are easy accessibility to millions of articles on wide variety of topics. It is fast
and easy to retrieve relevant information without spending endless amount of time researching a topic. It
helps with quick summary or basic explanation of different subjects without reading a long and
complicated academic journal. Wikipedia over simplifies information and is appropriate as secondary
source after the citation of an academic journal or more reliable source. Within most Wikipedia articles,

How My Writing Has Improved
After this semester of English 102, at Bristol Community College I feel that I have gained the skill to
articulate what I want to convey to the reader in many ways. I don't just look at grammatical error, but
instead I look for ways to make my sentences more effective and concise. Nevertheless, I hope that this
strategy will continue to help me improve my writing even further on in the future. My strong points as a
reader have also definitely improved after reading the poems and stories we experienced this semester.
Writing has been an important form of expression for me. I find myself to be very soft spoken and speaking
verbally is usually difficult for me because I can't always seem to find the right words to say. I feel that I
am more expressive and have more control over what I want to say. While this semester progressed toward
its end, I have learned new writing skills and gradually learned how to engage with audiences. This skill
was very useful in meeting my course goals in English 102. I believe that I have grown at organization and
careful stream my thoughts as well. Before I would just begin writing my papers without any plans or
organization, along with no definite idea of where I would be going with the assignments, but throughout
this course I've learned that you should base your paper around your thesis statement. Another skill I took
from this class was to value my classmate's responses, from their reactions made me much more aware that
my main ideas

Genome Editing Essay
Genome editing of germ line cells using CRISPR/Cas9 system
Recent studies suggest that genome editing of germ line cells is an effective strategy for mutated gene
correction in sperms and oocytes for the inhibition of onset of inherited disorder. The first time, germ line
genome editing in human by CRISPR/Cas9 system , was carried out to correct mutation of HBB (Beta
globin) gene in zygote of β–thalassemia patients by homologous DNA recombination (HDR) [80, 81].
Embryonic genome editing utilized in the treatment of such monogenic diseases prior to birth is a rational
use of embryonic genome editing in germ line cells. Homologous DNA recombination by traditional gene
editing techniques in mammalian eggs has a low rate (<10%) in term of

Because PGD usually is carried out by gametes prepared from parents. But parents who is confirmed by
PGD to have a high risk of transmition of inherited genetic mutation to their children and want to have
their own children, their gametes can be edited directly by Crisper/cas9 to create healthy children.Nowdays
germ line genome editing by programmable nuclease such as Crisper/cas9 is the most useful tool to treat
genetic diseases with high risk of inheritance mutation transmition.
Unresolved ethical problems still exist and are the main reason for delay onset of clinical trials in this field.
Large animal models can be utilized for a variety of monogenic diseases, particularly monogenic
neurological disorders like HD and Duchene muscular dystrophy) DMD (. Specificity, efficacy, and side
effects of germ line genome editing technology should be assessed by animal models before entering
clinical trials.
Generating mammalian models of neurodegenerative diseases using CRISPR/Cas9
Cas9 has been well studied. It belongs to the class II CRISPR/Cas system which is the main protein
involved in small interfering CRISPR RNA (crRNA). CRISPR RNA often leads to the silencing of invader
viruses and plasmids [72, 85]. Several in vitro surveys have shown that Cas9 is guided by gRNA composed
of chimeric RNA. Chimeric RNA is composed of crRNA and tracrRNA. They are sufficient to

College Admissions Essay: I Want To Be A Writer
The top shelf of my closet contains a towering, rather intimidating pile of notebooks.
A few of them are completely blank, devoid of anything besides blue college–ruled lines. Most, however,
are well–worn, with pages upon pages covered in handwritten rainbows of ink and graphite. Even though
their contents may not be worth the space, and they are completely filled, I cannot bring myself to throw
those notebooks away. They are a part of my history.
I've always been inclined towards language; my first memory involves sitting in my grandparents' living
room at age three, reading Dr. Seuss's Green Eggs and Ham out loud. About ten years later, my ninth grade
English teacher read my first "
high school essay
" and could almost immediately tell that I enjoyed writing
.
Although his assessment was correct, I often felt separated from my friends who self–identify as writers – I
never had the same inherent creativity in my narratives, the same ability to build escapist fictional

As a child, I had often responded to the question "what do you want to be when you grow up?" with an
enthusiastic "I want to be an author!" Therefore, I had quite a bit of nostalgia attached to that sentiment,
and panicked when I began to be asked about college majors. I saw myself as too scientific for the arts, but
too artistic for the sciences.
During a period of frantic research in the autumn of my junior year, I found an article about linguistics,
which seemed like an extremely welcome balance between the two disciplines – it is, at its most basic, the
study and interpretation of language and grammar. It would allow me to analyze intricacies instead of
create them, which I felt much more equipped to do. Even the grammatical aspect of the field sounded
incredibly appealing – as a Latin student, I am surprisingly comfortable with grammar.
I suddenly felt like I had a path to follow in my post–high school education – and a versatile one at
