Argument Research Essay Proposal Please complete all 3 parts of this template using the example proposal template from the assignment instructions as your guide. Download this file, complete your answers, save, and upload to the assignment submission area. I. Based on your current favorite choice for a topic/debate within the course theme announcement , answer the following: A. State your stance within the debate you chose, without using “I.” (1 sentence) Electronic cigarette smoking should be accepted as an alternative for tobacco smokers as it provides the nicotine users crave, with lesser adversity to their health, facilitating the realization of a smoke-free future. B. Why is your stance a good one for an argument research essay? (at least 3 sentences) My stance is a good argument as smoking cessation is a gradual process; thus, regulated vaping can help tobacco product users quit smoking. My proposition of using e-cigarettes is founded on the knowledge that smoking cessation is a process that takes place in stages. Additionally, vaping enables smokers to cope with the nicotine cravings from tobacco usage with a lower risk of addiction. Thus, my stance is practical as it considers smokers' difficulties when quitting, an aspect that builds my defense against opposers. Additionally, my stance supports extensive research into the issue. C. Who might disagree with your stance and why? (at least 3 sentences) Former smokers will have opposing views as most have experienced health problems brought on by smoking, prompting them to support instant termination of the habit. Additionally, policymakers in countries without proper regulation of tobacco distribution will disagree with my stance as they perceive e-cigarettes as an additional burden. However, by explaining my proposal in depth, I can convince these former smokers who understand how challenging quitting is that my approach has lower health risks and assists addicts in quitting successfully. Likewise, I can argue my stance to the above policymakers and persuade them that enforcing robust regulations and control measures on vape products will lift their burden. ©2021 Chamberlain University
D. Who do you imagine your audience will be? (at least 2 sentences) My audience will be the public, health providers, and policymakers. The public has dealt with and still suffers the negative effects of smoking while health providers care for patients experiencing these adversities. Additionally, the policymakers are responsible for developing regulations that control the accessibility of nicotine products. As primary stakeholders in the smoking cessation issue, the above persons will compose my audience. II. In a full paragraph of 7-9 sentences, and without performing any research, please note what you already understand about the debate and what you do not already understand about the debate: I know smoking is a significant health issue, but I am unaware of the full extent of the problem. I also understand that e-cigarettes help smokers cope with nicotine cravings but not the specific details on the mechanism and its effectiveness. Moreover, given that e-cigarettes contain nicotine, I need to comprehend how vaping is a healthier alternative. Furthermore, campaigns against smoking have been ongoing for decades to create public awareness of the health risks of nicotine products. Since supporting vaping for smokers involves changing the campaign's message, I do not know whether that will discourage or encourage smoking. Moreover, regulating nicotine products is challenging with so many market players involved, making me question whether e-cigarette control can be guaranteed. III. Shortly, you will begin scholarly research in the library. This research will help you find opposing viewpoints (sources that disagree with you) and supporting viewpoints (sources that agree with you), as well as information to fill in missing gaps in knowledge you may have. With all three of these goals in mind, please list five possible search phrases you might use when you begin searching in the library. Effectiveness of e-cigarettes as smoking aids cessation. Safety of electronic cigarettes Harmful health effects of electronic cigarettes. Benefits of nicotine replacement over vaping during smoking cessation therapy Health practitioner's knowledge, attitudes, and views on electronic cigarettes ©2021 Chamberlain University
