There are several U.S. centers of Disaster Research, one of them is the Hazard Reduction & Recovery Center (HRRC) which was founded by Dennis E. Wenger at Texas A&M University in 1988.(Fisher, 2008) HRRC, provides information to become prepare for any storms or disasters to homeowners and businesses, “The center engage in research on hazard mitigation, disaster preparedness, response, and recovery…The HRRC is dedicated to provide access to hazard information for homeowners, professionals, business investors, and the academic community.”(Fisher, 2008) The founder of HRRC Dennis E. Wenger received his BS, MA and PhD
from Ohio State University and specializes in the areas of “sociology, natural and technological disaster research, hazards mitigation, urban ecology, collective behavior and mass communication, and disaster and emergency planning.”(Fisher, 2008) From 2019 to 2022 the HRRC conducted research on the community resilience and if the communities are prepare for, responds to, recover and if they can adapt to catastrophic events.
The research is based on Technological disasters which are events caused by human failure, for example structural collapses or even industrial accidents. “Technology-based disasters are as severe as natural disasters and sometimes could be triggered by natural disasters… The developed framework will shed light on measuring and improving community resilience to technological disasters across the nation.”(University of Texas A&M) This research project was headed by Lei Zou and assisted by Qingsheng Wang and Michelle Meyer, at a cost of $30,000. Where I’m currently living we had a catastrophic crash which was the Baltimore bridge collapse and six construction workers were killed. I have traveled that bridge many times and I will never
think about the bridge collapsing. Everyone should be educated and prepare for such event. Many of our buildings are outdated and can cause a structural collapses or even in the work area if people work in the industrial area there can be industrial accidents such as expositions, so we all need to be well prepared and well informed in case we get in this type of situations because we never know when this type of situations can happen. Matthew 24:36-39 states, “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son,[a] but only the Father. As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the
flood came and took them all away.”(NIV)
