Student name and ID number: Sabin Dev 301419801 BTEC211, Fall 2023 in-person BTEC 211 Week 4 Lab 4 - Introduction to Electrical Safety Testing Objective: To become familiar with standard procedures for electrical safety testing of equipment Equipment and Tools: 1. Fluke ESA620 Electrical Safety Analyzer 2. CSA Z-32 standards guideline 3. Medical device Procedure: In this lab, we are going to apply the CSA standard guidelines for conducting an electrical safety test. To perform an electrical safety test, we are using the Fluke ESA620 tester to analyze medical device leakage currents. To complete the Leakage Current Test table below, please follow the steps in the laboratory procedure section (page three of this lab manual). If the experimental value is more than the standard threshold, the test is failed; otherwise, it is passed. In the table, the "Standard Threshold" values come from CSA-Z32-004, table 2 (read the appendix at the end of this lab to figure out how to find the right threshold). As an example, the medical device under the leakage current test could be an Infusion Pump (Advance Medical Technology Limited – Model AM 601A, S/N: AM1708008, Type CF). The lab instructor will provide you with the medical device. The Tester device is Fluke ESA620 Electrical Safety Analyzer. 1

Student name and ID number: Sabin Dev 301419801 BTEC211, Fall 2023 in-person Appendix 1: Laboratory procedure: Earth Leakage Current Test Performance: Step 1: Identify the Electrical Safety Analyzer: Today we are going to use the Fluke ESA620 Electrical Safety Analyzer. Then connect the Analyzer to the power outlet as the following photo shows 4
Student name and ID number: Sabin Dev 301419801 BTEC211, Fall 2023 in-person Step 2: Identify the medical equipment under the Electrical safety Test: Today we are doing leakage current test on an Infusion Pump Manufactured by Advance Medical Technology Limited with Model AM-601A and Serial Number AM1708008 . The image below shows the Infusion Pump. Remember the main switch need to be ON before the test. (The lab instructor might provide you with different medical equipment.) Step 3: Turn on the Electrical safety Analyzer by using the main switch at the back of the analyzer, as shown below. 5
Student name and ID number: Sabin Dev 301419801 BTEC211, Fall 2023 in-person Step 4: Then the analyzer boots up and displays the loaded standard. As shown in the following photos. 6 It shows the Firmware version 2.03 is loaded for running this specific analyzer.

Student name and ID number: Sabin Dev 301419801 BTEC211, Fall 2023 in-person Step 4: Connect the power cord of the infusion pump to the Electrical Safety Analyzer as shown below. 7 It shows the Standard IEC 60601 & ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1 are loaded in this analyzer
Student name and ID number: Sabin Dev 301419801 BTEC211, Fall 2023 in-person Step 5: Select the right test from the key panel to perform the Leakage Current Tests. The function key panel is shown in the photos. Step 6: After selecting the test, the analyzer display changes and the following photo shows the Earth, enclosure, and Patient Leakage current options are available for the test. 8
Student name and ID number: Sabin Dev 301419801 BTEC211, Fall 2023 in-person Step 7: Now the analyzer is ready to perform the test. If you remember the table on page one, we need to set the analyzer to the required test conditions. The test conditions can be setup by using the Polarity, Neutral, and Earth keys on the analyzer. So, first let us do Normal Polarity, Close Neutral, Close Earth. Please read the value from the display and fill in the table on page one. 9 We are going to select the earth for doing the Earth leakage Current test.

We assume the infusion pump has no other problems or issues, so it will be considered as a normal condition device and not a single fault. This infusion pump is also considered a type of CF medical equipment. 15
