SCI 100 Module Six Activity Template: Science in the Real World Instructions First, choose one video from the module resources to watch. You should use points made in the video you chose, and any other course resources, to support your responses to the questions below. Replace the bracketed text with your responses. Apply the scientific lens to a personal experience or event. The video The Other Inconvenient Truth, made me realize how little I knew about how much agriculture is also a big contributor to environmental damage and climate change due to the greenhouse gas emissions. Personally, I do know that using bottles of water, certain food containers and much more is damaging our Earth. I, personally, am trying to do better with my footprint that I leave on this Earth. I try to only get drinks in my reusable metal cups with my metal straws and reuse plastic containers and some bottles for things around my house. Explain the value of being a scientifically informed citizen within your community. Being a citizen in my community and the ones surrounding me, I look to see how I can help my community. For example, I had some feminine hygiene products that I cant use anymore and instead of tossing them, I found out that one of my local libraries has FREE feminine hygiene products in their bathroom and they needed more, so I gathered up what I could and donated to help them out rather than tossing them adding excess waste when they can be used by someone else. I also got coupons for free and cheap hygiene products to help. Many people don’t think about donating to local shelters or private locally owned thrift stores who give back to the community. My favorite local thrift store called Heart and Hand (I volunteer for some of their benefits and donates good to them and shop their store, they give back to their community) made a post about donations of garden plants and I have a bunch of extra beets that I’m going to take because they give fresh fruits and vegetables to the needy in the community. Discuss the obligation of citizens to be scientifically literate and how that could affect global contemporary issues. Citizens need to be more informed and understand the severity of issues happening and have happened. Media and social media aren’t any help with the sway of helping people understand what is happening. For example we just went through 2 ½ years of a pandemic if not longer and people thought it was hoax and a joke until people started dying, what they have failed to realize that Coronavirus has been around for a very long time and that there are different strains of this ( my cousin who I have helped raise had a strain or two of the coronavirus). People are not doing their own research and just going off hearsay and the words of unreliable people and that is incredibly dangerous, just do your own research make sure it is credible and simple do what you are told when your told.
