SCI 100 Module Six Activity Template: Science in the Real World Instructions First, choose one video from the module resources to watch. You should use points made in the video you chose, and any other course resources, to support your responses to the questions below. Replace the bracketed text with your responses. Apply the scientific lens to a personal experience or event. The value of understanding and studying natural science is very critical. Just like math, science is all around us. Understanding the scientific evidence of how or why something works helps us make better decisions in our path through life. A personal event I have been through is based around the vaccine shot that was made available to defend us from the COVID-19 virus. Of course, everyone had an opinion on it and even conspiracies. This made me question if I should even get it myself. After some research and scientific evidence on how it helps I made the decision to get vaccinated. Till today I have not caught the virus that still goes around now. Explain the value of being a scientifically informed citizen within your community. Being scientifically informed within a community allows an individual to be enriched with knowledge and make informed decisions. Within a community this individual contributes greatly by making progress. Discuss the obligation of citizens to be scientifically literate and how that could affect global contemporary issues. Citizens have a moral obligation to be scientifically literate in today’s world for many reasons. One of the reasons related to the video I watched provided in the module resources is addressing global challenges. Jonathan Foley clearly explained how agriculture, the number one agent in feeding the seven billion people on the planet, is a cause of climate change due to greenhouse gas emissions and environmental destruction due to how dangerous it would be to use more of the land for growing crops.
