1 Mia Torrez Professor Gel 111 04 November 2023 Unit B: Tectonic Plates 1. Describe the shape of the most prominent features visible on the ocean floor. - There are lots of dips and raises visible. There is a large zig-zag pattern forming on the floor. There is also a very deep and large depression at the bottom formed within the zig zag shape. 2. What do these features represent? - These are mountains and valleys on the ocean floor. Thanks to the topography we can see just how tall/deep these are 3. How many fault areas are visible on the screen? - 4 faults are visible 4. Which fault areas appear to have symmetric magnetic striping? - Fault 1 and 3 have symmetric magnetic striping 5. What kind of fault must be present in these areas to account for symmetric magnetic striping? - Divergent faults must be present in both areas in order to have symmetric magnetic striping. 6. What kind of fault lines must Fault 2 and Fault 4 represent? Explain.
2 - Fault 2 and 4 are transform faults 7. What is the name of this mountain range? - “The Cascades” is the name of this mountain range 8. This mountain range is made of a chain of volcanoes that stretch along the western coast and into Canada. Based on this information, what kind of fault would you then predict Fault 5 to be? Explain. - Since fault 5 is a subduction zone that made the volcanoes form I believe it could be a divergent fault. Works Cited Layered Earth - earth science simulation software and Curriculum .
