Student Assessment Cover Sheet
Course Code and Name: AUR30620 Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology
Unit Code:
AURETR112
Unit Title: Test and repair basic electrical circuits
You are working in an automotive workshop. Five (5) clients have brought in five (5) different vehicles that require testing and repairs to their basic electrical circuits.
Your task is to test five (5) different basic electrical circuits for continuity and visually check terminals
in the wiring harness for moisture ingress and corrosion.
You must also carry out four (4) different circuit repairs.
Your assessor will be acting as your supervisor and delegate work to you.
You are required to locate and interpret a testing strategy to test five (5) different basic electrical circuits:
One short circuit across an electrical resistive load
One open circuit before or after an electrical resistive load
One high resistance circuit before or after an electrical resistive load
Current flow across an electrical resistive load
Voltage drop across an electrical resistive load.
In addition, you are required to carry out four (4) different circuit repairs in which the work must involve:
Crimping various terminals
Soldering wire gauge terminals
Applying heat shrink insulation to crimped or soldered joints.
Replacing male and female terminals in a connector housing
Performing terminal retention checks to replace terminals.
Your trainer/assessor will advise you which tests you will be required to conduct for this assessment task and on which circuits you are required to conduct repairs.
After each activity, you will find a Practical Observation Checklist. Your Assessor will observe you and
complete the Performance Checklists. All task criteria must be satisfactorily demonstrated. These assessment tasks are given to you as repair orders.
You need to:
Determine the job requirements according to your customer and or supervisor’s instructions.
Access and interpret the technical procedures and information for the diagnosis and repair.

Practical Assessment
Part B
Analyse the diagnostic options and source your testing strategy to identify the cause of fault by using workplace and manufacturer procedures.
Identify hazards associated with the work and manage risks.
Select and check tools, equipment, and materials for serviceability.
Inspect basic electrical circuits for signs of damage.
Test the electrical control systems using the appropriate tools and fault-finding techniques in
accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications and workplace procedures and without causing damage to components or systems.
Compare the inspection and test results with the manufacturer’s specifications.
Identify faults from the test results and determine the causes of the faults.
Confirm and report fault according to workplace procedures.
Develop and report recommendations for repairs.
Find the information you need for the repair activities.
Collect the tools, equipment and materials you need for the repairs and check for serviceability.
Carry out the repairs according to workplace and manufacturer procedures and specifications. and work, health and safety and environmental requirements.
Carry out post-repair testing according to workplace procedures to confirm fault rectification
and detect and rectify any further problems detected or introduced during the repair or fabrication process.
Make final inspection to ensure work is to workplace expectations and present systems ready for use.
Clean the work area, dispose of waste and non-recyclable materials, and collect recycled material.
Check and store tools and equipment and identify, tag and isolate any faulty electrical equipment according to workplace procedures.
Process workplace documentation according to workplace procedures
You need to read the supervisor’s instruction on the repair order underneath, discuss the tasks listed
with your supervisor for clarification and fill the vehicle’s details and other information on top of the repair order before starting the work.
You must also fill out the following documents:
The Testing Strategy Template to outline the test strategy you are going to use.
The Preliminary Inspection Report to record the outcomes of your testing.
The Post-Repair testing template to confirm the status of the instrument and warning systems, if a final inspection has been completed, systems presented ready for use, tools checked and stored, and all workplace documentation processed.
Finalise the information on the Repair Order.

If the selected PV module has STC-rated maximum power current (Imp) of 5 A, how many parallel- connected strings of modules are required? 5 31 Which silicon solar cell manufacturing…arrow_forwardA process yields 10% defective items. For testing purposes, 100 items arerandomly selected from the process. NOTE: A normal distribution may be approximated in order to get the probability of any event. 1.) What is the probability that the number of defectives exceeds 13? 2.) What is the probability that the number of defectives is less than 8?arrow_forward
