Jayden Ceron, Assignment #3, 02/17/2022 Introduction Assignment #3 talks about concentrations within Electrical Engineering. After the prep work, I will use the information I viewed on the concentrations considered at CSULB to summarize what these concentrations do regularly. Afterward, with the information I presented for the concentrations for Electrical Engineering, I will weigh my options and see what concentration suits me well and why. Soon after, I will invest more of my time in my area of interest to seek what salaries they contain. Finally, I will wrap up this assignment by discussing any final thoughts or opinions relevant to any headings below. The Concentrations Given At CSULB From the prep work, there seem to be five concentrations given at CSULB: Communications, Control, Digital Signal Processing, Electronics, and Power. Each of them provides a different side of Electrical Engineering while maintaining the heart of what it is to be an Electrical Engineer. The first of the five concentrations in CSULB is Communications. This one says it within the name as it deals with transmitters, receivers, and communication towers for mainly radio or television stations. They implement analog and digital to their circuit designs to create network communication. The next one in the concentrations in Electrical Engineering is Control. Control can be seen with our eyes in everyday lives. They create items that can help make people's lives more simple such as creating an autopilot control system for airplanes or a system for your refrigerators. They focus more on signal processing, energy conversion, and feedback control. They ensure that their products are efficient and predictable to use. Page 2 of 6

Jayden Ceron, Assignment #3, 02/17/2022 The third one is Digital Signal Processing. They are similar to Communications; however, they focus more on conversions like ADC or DAC and algorithms. They create what is also needed for Communication Engineers like radio communications, sound navigation, digital image processing, and many more. The second to last one is Electronics. This field is a more generalist approach to Electrical Engineering while still maintaining a unique discipline. This division wants to design, optimize and manage their electronic devices. They are more into electromedical, instrument manufacturing, navigational, and many more. While it is very similar to the general overview of Electrical Engineering, it must be noted that they are more skilled in testing, the use of programs, and troubleshooting electrical devices. Finally, the last one in Electrical Engineering is Power. This one is one of the oldest fields in Electrical Engineering as it has to deal with generating and distributing electrical power. They mainly deal with turning something into electrical currents like nuclear, hydro, or solar power conversion. Due to their close relations, they often deal with capacitors, batteries, generators, and many more. My Area of Interest My area of interest in Electrical Engineering is Electronics. It is one that I am surprised by (but not really). Initially, I already thought that Power would be one that I wanted to pick. However, after reading the other four, I am not as interested as before. When I was little, I used to go out. From visiting Yosemite to viewing Burney Falls in Oregon, I have always been close to the wilderness. Year after year, it would become less fun and more of a teaching moment that carbon can do wonders to a world unseen by most. When I learned about solar, wind, and hydropower, I felt like I wanted to do it because it is helping preserve something I loved going to when I was growing up. However, when I was reading it not too Page 3 of 6
Jayden Ceron, Assignment #3, 02/17/2022 long ago, it seemed rather “boring” to me. This does not mean it made me sleep midway through reading it, but nothing seems to be advancing, as if it is at a standstill. I want something that appears to progress forward while knowing what I am doing is worthwhile constantly. So, when reading Electronics, I would say I was pretty surprised by how intrigued I was. When reading more into it, it had things that I wanted: optimizing equipment and especially having a connection to the medical department. I may not be 100% certain about it, but I can say I feel more confident in my choice than I was a week ago. Area of Interest’s Income When researching Electronics (Electrical) Engineering in my quest to understand it better, I did manage to find some data on their typical salary. Compared to the average Electrical Engineer, they have a 3% difference between the two. Electrical Engineers averagely make $74,785, while Electronics Engineers make $76,840. With more experience, Electronics Engineers make roughly $95,000 to $108,000 per year. Conclusion Not that long ago did I admit that I was unsure what to do or where to go within Engineering, and while that remains true, it is slowly starting to dissipate. This assignment was one that I might have done on my own time but taught me so much. Now, I know what these divisions are and what they do. While I didn’t talk too much about them in the assignment, I want to say that the way websites described these divisions was very informational. They also mentioned what industries they typically go to, so I can now say in complete confidence that my dad being in aerospace is just a tiny piece of the puzzle. This assignment helped me understand what is out there for me and even gave me a new division to look into, so I am more hopeful about finding what I would love to do for a long time. Page 4 of 6
