Which of the public policy approaches outlined in section 10-2
would work best to resolve this pollution problem and why? You are required provide a link to the article and support your answer with relevant ideas, facts, and examples. Hello class and professor, The chapter 10 reading outlines how the government can remedy an externality by requiring or forbidding certain behaviors (Textbook). This can specifically be applied to issues such as pollution. This is a complex issue that cannot be 100% avoidable because you can’t require all transportation to cease; however, the EPA can require certain types of pollution to be monitored and regulated. I believe that having pollution standards and regulations is important because it sets the standard and can be enforced. Increasing research in energy technology could also improve pollution since there are always better ways that we can improve and produce more clean energy. One example of this is in the Wall Street Journal that outlines the initiative that the President put forth a final methane rule for US oil and gas producers. This initiative states that oil and gas producers are required to plug methane leaks and stop burning excess gas with flares. US Reference Mankiw, G. (2020). Essentials of economics (9th ed.).
