Assignment III: Market Types (Busch Light) The market structure of Busch Light falls under monopolistic competition, which is a market structure that has elements of both perfect competition and monopoly. In a monopolistic competition, there are many sellers, but each seller has some degree of market power because they sell differentiated products that are not perfect substitutes for each other. In the case of Busch Light, there are many other brands of beer that it competes with in the market, such as Bud Light, Coors Light, Miller Lite, and other domestic and imported beers. However, Busch Light has its own unique characteristics that distinguish it from its competitors. For example, it is marketed as a light beer that has fewer calories and carbs than regular beer. This product differentiation helps Busch Light to maintain its market power and pricing strategy. In addition, the barriers to entry in the beer market are relatively low, which means that new firms can enter the market and compete with established firms. This competition forces firms like Busch Light to constantly innovate and improve their products to remain competitive. This dynamic competition helps to keep prices low and quality high. Overall, the market structure of Busch Light can be described as monopolistic competition because it is a market that has many competitors, but each competitor has some degree of market power due to product differentiation.
