Provide a basic definition of a crisis intervention. Explain the steps in an effective crisis intervention and define a Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD) intervention. How do these interventions differ from other counseling techniques? Provide examples to support your rationale. ° Thank you for your information about the CISD placement in the book but as I stated, it was not in this week’s required reading. I didn’t really need to look for it since I was somewhat familiar with it but my point in stating that was while it is paramount to a crisis, it is in itself a separate form of intervention not discussed in the first and second chapters. I don’t find one assessment task or intervention task more challenging than the others but what I have found challenging is how the client receives or processes assessment or intervention. Take for instance a teen in the middle of a crisis in school. Assessing what triggers or event is causing the crisis is what counselors typically try to do but it may be required to implement a safety plan or strategy to get the youth out of a crisis state in order to properly assess the triggers and traumatic events. A crisis can be multi-layered and not one fix for all. This is why I stated the series of tasks to bring them back to equilibrium makes for effective intervention. Assessment is a critical factor of intervention but in a moment of true crisis sometimes you must jump to implementation of safety measures in order to work backwards to determine what caused the crisis.
