Good evening, everyone, Transportation costs have many factors that consistently change throughout the year. In addition, to expected annual changes, the effect of transportation costs changes especially due to the demand curve and the state of the global economy. After reading the textbook and the PowerPoint, there are a few factors that stick out to me about transportation costs. First are the operating costs that come with transportation. When I think about operating costs, two things come to mind; a company’s transportation and logistics management program and companies that use third-party logistics (3PL) to get their transportation needs completed. Operating costs interest me because of their effects on transportation for a company that runs its transportation system. For example, if a company invests in its trucks, it will understand how to budget for its fuel, maintenance, salaries, and costs on the roadways. These operating costs are flexible, and change based on the current state of the market and the demand needed for the product that the company is pushing out. However, operating costs are a safer bet with 3PL, if the company can afford it because there comes the side of fixed costs for the 3PL to run transportation requirements based on the needs of the company. The second interest in the PowerPoint that I have about transportation costs is the various situations that change the costs of transportation. Depending on the product, the weight, packaging, and item type cause a major shift in how the item is moved. Next, the routes traveled can incur new costs depending on transportation moving through rural areas versus metropolitan areas. Billy
