What are some of the social and professional organizations/associations that are specific to your program outside of GCU? Which one interests you the most, why? (Minimum 100 words total) Note: The organization/association you discuss here can be specific to your community or your future profession. These can be associated with your work, gym, church, friends, family, business connections, mentors, etc. Within my community there are many social and professional organizations that pertain to my major Health and Sciences. For example I want to be a nurse or OB/GYN to be exact and the American Association for the History of Nursing (AAHN) is a professional organization open to everyone interested in the history of nursing. The purpose of the Association is to foster the importance of history as relevant to understanding the past, defining the present, and influencing the future of nursing by stimulating national and international interest collaboration in the history of nursing, educating nurses and the public regarding the history and heritage of the nursing profession. Set and share a goal for how you will become involved in a social /professional organization. Discuss how involvement in these types of groups could positively affect you as a student/employee? (Minimum 100 words total) To become involved in a social/ professional organization I will become a Registered Nurse (RN) and hold an active unencumbered in at least one state, territory, or possession of the US. I will also be a graduate of a nursing program qualifying me to take the RN licensure exam. Studying nursing history allows nurses to understand more fully problems currently affecting the profession, such as pay, regulation, shortage, education, defining practice, anatomy, and unity. I would need to get a Bachelor’s degree, go to medical school, complete residency, and get a medical license. A bachelor's degree usually takes four years to complete. Medical school takes four years, and residency takes another four years. This means a total of 12 years for the OB- GYN to complete their education and training, from the end of high school to the beginning of professional independent practice. Review the "How It All Began: History" section of Chapter 1 in the University Success Guide to locate and explain GCU's Mission and Vision, Five Mission Competencies, and GCU’s Christian Identity and Mission. (Minimum 100 words total) GCU Mission and Vision: they are a premier Christian University, educating people to lead and serve. Their mission is to prepares learners to become global citizens, critical thinkers, effective communicators and responsible leaders by providing an academically challenging, values-based curriculum from the context of our Christian heritage. Five Mission Competencies: The Five Mission Competencies are global citizen, critical thinker, effective communicator, responsible leader, and the mission must be seen from the context of the Christian heritage. GCU’s Christian Identity and Mission: GCU has been a Christian college with a biblically rooted mission since their founding in 1949. Though GCU was founded as a Baptist university, currently GCU is an interdenominational university that welcomes students from all backgrounds. The GCU Academic Catalog lists the university's General Education (GE) Competencies. Note: While the General Education Competencies support the GCU Mission competencies, they are not the same competencies. (The GE Competencies are listed in the box to the right.) Review Ch. 2 of the University Foundations After completing GCU’s university foundation experience, students can show capability in the areas of academic skills and self-leadership Effective Communication GCU graduates will build successful communications suitable diverse listeners. Christian Worldview Students are given the aspect to be able to see how the Christian world affects values and dignity along with different disciplinary actions and decision-making skills. Critical Thinking Teaches the student how to solve various types of situations by examining and evaluating the challenge in front of them

(Minimum 50 words total) Failing a class: First, I would contact my instructor, ask what can be done to reverse the failing grade. Whether it be extra credit or to redo an assignment. Then I would need to do said tasks. Then to avoid future failing grade, I can reach out for tutoring Missed an assignment/exam due date: I would contact my course instructor if they know that I wouldn’t be able to turn the assignment in on time and see what can be done. If it is an exam that will be missed, I would also contact my instructor to discuss a rescheduling of the exam for me. Feeling nervous or overwhelmed: I could contact my instructor or reach out to someone in student resources about what is available to me to help how I am feeling. Scheduled for the wrong course/class: Contact my assigned student resource advisor to have my schedule looked at again and adjustments to be made Cannot log into the digital classroom or to the GCU Library: Contact my student resource advisor or technical support that is located on the GCU website to have some troubleshooting done so I can then access the online class or library.
