3 Midterm Project NOTE: For each of the 7 tasks be sure to include the URL, if appropriate, and an in-text citation and APA reference from your text supporting your analysis. Professional Online Article INSTRUCTIONS: Find a professional article online written for people in your field. Identify the intended reader and purpose . Write description of the article describing the elements in the article that helped you identify the reader and purpose. Be sure to include the URL of the article. Your response below: The intended purpose of this article is to provide more information on IT. The webpage includes a little of everything regarding IT. You can read what it is why it is important and even about jobs in IT. The intended audience would be individuals with an interest in IT. Potentially someone looking for IT as a career opportunity. Since the site talks a lot about careers and the number of available careers to include pay, it’s very likely it’s targeted toward people looking for jobs in the IT world. https://www.comptia.org/content/articles/what-is-information-technology APUS Website INSTRUCTIONS: Study your school's Web site. Imagine you are a potential transfer student looking for a new school. Analyze the usefulness of the information available and how easy it is to locate information about various majors and directions about applying for admission . Identify 2-3 features of the Web site you would change in some way. Support your answer with citations from the text. Your response below: If I was a transfer student planning on transferring to APU, I wouldn’t have too hard of a time finding the needed information. If I were to change something I would make the transfer student section a separate tab. Just how Students and Alumni has a tab I would make a Transfer student tab rather than it being in admissions. Under the transfer student tab, I would have the available programs so that a transfer could easily find the information they are most curious about. Personally, when I was looking at the website to transfer, I had issues with the transfer equivalency database. For me it was frustrating that I did the estimate, and I could instantly see which programs would best accept my credits. I would change that on the site and make it to where when you do the estimated transfer it shows you which programs you could apply the credits to and how much of the program would be accomplished. Bulletin: Company Guidelines for Plant Security INSTRUCTIONS: The following bulletin at a large manufacturing company provides guidelines for the plant security supervisors in assigning duties to the plant security guards at five separate plants. Revise and reorganize to make the bulletin easier to read and more useful to the supervisors. BULLETIN: All supervisors must be conscious of the need to reduce costs and properly use available security guards in the most effective manner. Consider staggering the start and quit times to ensure a larger force during the peak demand hours. Every effort should be made to eliminate non security service functions, such as airport pickup, mail runs, drives to banks, drives to medical centers, parcel pickup. The supervisors should regularly review the schedule to be sure the coverage meets the needs of the plant. Guards assigned to gates should advise the shift supervisors whenever they leave their posts, including for lunch break. Non security service functions should be contracted out if possible. Drives to banks should be performed by

4 Midterm Project the responsible department, but a department may request a security guard escort. Guards assigned to patrols, shipping and receiving docks, and special surveillance should tell the shift supervisors when they leave their assigned task, even for the lunch break. Supervisors should consider combining spot checks with regular duties of guards. For example, if a guard must open a gate and passes the trash center, the guard can spot check the trash pickup on the way to or from opening the gate. Supervisors must know about outside employment of guards. These outside activities should not adversely affect the security arrangements at the plant. In general, security guards should not also work at racetracks or casinos, or any places associated with gambling. Guards also should not be in partnership with co-workers since that relationship could negatively affect plant security. Supervisors need to check attendance records regularly. Frequent illness may indicate the guard cannot do the physical tasks appropriately. Questionable illness reports should be checked. Guards who operate small businesses may resist the normal rotation because it will interfere with their outside employment. Security requires a 7-day operation. Your response below: Supervisors, prioritize the reduction of cost and the availability of security guard. Stagger security guards shifts to ensure there is more coverage during peak hours. Ensure schedules are being reviewed and the plant is always covered, be aware of breaks to ensure there’s also coverage during breaks. Consider combining spot checks with regular duties to maximize time and efficiency. Guards assigned to patrols, shipping and receiving docks, and special surveillance must notify supervisor when they step away from their post. All non-security service functions should be eliminated and contracted out. Banks drives will be performed by responsible departments, they may request a security guard escort. Security guards must have approval from supervisor to have a second job. Second jobs must be appropriate and may not be associated with gambling. Second jobs may also not interfere with the 7-day operation. All relationships must be explicitly professional, fraternization isn’t allowed. Supervisors must be aware of attendance and keep up with illnesses. Illnesses need to be legitimate and must not hinder guards from physical tasks. Real-world letter, memo, bulletin, pamphlet, or report INSTRUCTIONS: Find a real-world letter, memo, bulletin, pamphlet, or report online. Identify specific style problems . Evaluate the style and clarity of the document and identify specific areas where revision would help readers. Support you answers with citations from the text. Be sure to include a url to the document you are evaluating. Your response below: I am using the CDC covid guidelines. The specific style problem is disorganized structure. The information in the guideline is very condensed in a small area. It’s a lot of information and they way it’s formatted can be quite distracting and confusing. The guidelines can be very contradicting, in one portion it says you can end isolation after 5 days but then it says regardless of when you end isolation you need to avoid people. I would create more clarity by breaking it into different pages. I would separate guidelines by pages for example if you tested positive/feel sick view this page. If you were exposed but don’t feel sick view this page. Then you can spread the information in a way that is less confusing. Less information will be compacted in one area and will be more clear. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/your-health/isolation.html
5 Midterm Project Frequented Website INSTRUCTIONS: Find a Web site you use frequently and analyze how you use it . How easy is it to find the features you want to see? Has the home page changed since you began using it? Can you recall which features were redesigned ? How consistent is the placement of navigation links on the pages you use? How informative are the headings and page titles? Are there any distracting elements ? Are the graphics helpful or simply decorative? Are there moving graphics or text? If so, do they enhance the usefulness of the site? Write a memo to your instructor, analyzing the design of the Web site. Support your answers with citations from the text . Be sure to include the url. Your response below: A web site I frequently visit is Amazon.com. In my opinion Amazon is one of the most user-friendly sites out there. It’s extremely easy to log in and find what you are needing. It’s easy to find anything from the home page whether you want to click on the current sales or search something up. Since I started using it the webpage has developed to be easier on the eyes. Before the page was bland and lacking color and didn’t have as many tabs. Now it has colors there are things that transition when you visit the page. The placement of navigation links is very consistent. Once you learned the site once, you always know where to go. The headings are very informative and straight to the point. Each heading directly guides you to what you are looking for. There’s no need to click around and search for stuff because the tabs are very self- explanatory. There aren’t any distracting elements, everything enhances the web site. I enjoy that there are graphics are helpful and show you the products. https://www.amazon.com/ Home page for: Ford, Chrysler and GM INSTRUCTIONS: Find the home pages for the following: a) Ford Motor Company, b) Chrysler, and c) General Motors. Analyze the design features of these home pages in terms of users who are seniors or have problems making precise movements with the mouse. Report your findings to your instructor in a memo . Your response below: All three designs are similarly laid out. The navigation and tab in all three have a similar concept in all of them. From the three I think General Motors would be the most user friendly for an older audience. Since it has a larger font, and the links aren’t placed too closely it’s not easy to accidently click the wrong thing. From the three I think Chrysler has the smaller fonts and multiple links one above another and could be easily mistakenly clicked. Ford also has some links that are close to one another but it’s a little friendlier than Chrysler. In terms of elder audience friendliness, I would rate them General Motors, Ford Motor Company, and in last Chrysler. Computer Product Review INSTRUCTIONS: Find a review of a computer product online. Using the information in the review, write a task-oriented set of instructions from the review. Be sure to include meaningful tasks and graphics . Use your book as a reference . Be sure to include the URL as a reference. Your response below: HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e All-in-One Printer is one of the best all in one printer out there. You can connect to the printer in several ways. To include via one of the device friendly apps, a wired connection or a Wi-Fi connection. We’re going to go over printing using a
6 Midterm Project USB connection. You will turn the printer on and ensure the printer stats are well. After you make sure it has ink and paper and all the levels are where they need to be you will connect a device using a USB cord connected to the port on the side (image shown below). Once you plug in the device you will find the document that needs to be printed and you will click print. You will have the print pop up that will allow you to customize your print. IF no customization is needed you can simply continue printing and once the request processes the print will come out of the printer.
