Background information My house is located at 11726 Camden Ave in Omaha, Nebraska. It is located off of 120 th and Fort Street near a golf range and Knolls golf course. It is a townhome and we are renting it out so we share a wall with another older couple who are very nice. We have been living here for just under a year and it has been very nice but has its risks. Its mission is: • To be tough against the wild world outside. Its walls may be a bit weathered, but they do a good job keeping the elements at outside. • To create a space that allows my ability to excel in my otherworldly duties. A place where I can focus, create, and unleash my full potential. Somewhere free from distractions and inspiration can come in the blink of an eye. They all have our own separate lives and two of them are still going to school. Andrew is currently going for his bachelor's in cybersecurity at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and is currently in his senior year. Andrew is unfortunately moving away at the end of May into an apartment with someone else. They have very much enjoyed their stay here as it is the first time any of them have lived with other people in an actual house. They have all learned that they have to put equal effort into making the house look clean and presentable. My room

Threats Provide a summary of the threats identified during the risk assessment. Threat Source Classification Category Threat Agents Natural Threat Sources External Natural Tornado, flood, ice storm/winter storm, electrical storm/thunderstorm Break-ins External Man-made Robbery, Ill-intent, Revenge Poisoning Internal Natural Carbon Dioxide poisoning Structure Decay Internal Natural Mold, Pests, Wood deteriorating, Leaky toilets/sinks, old windows Fire Internal Natural/Man- made Lint build-up, chemical fire, stove fire, candles
Vulnerability Summary Define what a vulnerability is and provide a brief description of how vulnerabilities were identified. The state where you are open to an attack that could harm or injure a person, place, or thing. These were identified by checking everything in the house over the period we have been living in this house. Vulnerability Affect Asset(s) Our back sliding door does not have a working lock on it. Everything in the house + us The locks on all doors except the front door are able to be unlocked on the other side of the door if you use a spoon or knife to turn the centerpiece. Everything in the house + us Lint builds up in the laundry unit causing a fire. Dryer unit plus other assets if not handled in time There are windows externally to the house that could be broken. House structure plus personal belongings Front/Back doors Personal belongings and unit amenities
Risks Andrew and his roommates have identified the top three risks they face, prioritizing them based on their likelihood and potential impact. At the top is the persistent threat of break-ins, a global concern with an alarming frequency of occurrences, estimated in the thousands or even millions daily. Intruders, typically motivated by the thought of valuable assets, pose a significant risk to the security of their home. Another immediate risk they've highlighted comes from human oversight, particularly regarding fire hazards. It's a common scenario – a simple oversight like neglecting to clean the lint trap in the dryer can lead to disastrous consequences. Risk 1 – Possibility of a break-in through the back door. Vulnerability The lock on our back door does not work. Affected Assets Everything in the house plus us renters Threat Source(s) Man-kind Existing Controls It looks like there is a lock in place. Impact If all of our stuff gets stolen, then we will be out a lot of money and some special things that we hold close. Likelihood It is very unlikely that a person would look at our house and try to get in through the back as we are in a less wealthy type neighborhood, and we are a townhouse which makes the probability even less likely. Risk 2 – Possibility a robber could get to us before the cops show up. Vulnerability The locks on all doors except the front door are able to be unlocked on the other side of the door if you use a spoon or knife to turn the centerpiece. Affected Assets Everything in the house plus us renters. Threat Source(s) Man-kind Existing Controls The knobs look like you can't open them from the other side. Impact If the doors do not stay locked from a single side, then an intruder can make their way in and get through every door we lock before the police show up.

Likelihood Unlikely because we have set up the entrances with more security, but it is never impossible for someone to get in. Risk 3 – Fire due to lint build-up in the dryer. Vulnerability Lint builds up in the laundry unit causing a fire. Affected Assets Dryer unit plus other assets if not handled in time. Threat Source(s) Natural Existing Controls Safety controls in newer models of dryers but this is an older model. Impact If the lint builds up enough it could catch fire from smoldering or just an ember from something off the clothes in the unit and damage the unit and/or the entire house. Likelihood It's more likely with three young adults that do laundry on the regular because we forget to clean the lint catcher.
Risk Response Risk 1 – Possibility of a break-in through the back door. This risk should be reduced/mitigated. Andrew and his roommates have found a way to prevent random people from walking into the house. They have cut a two-by-four a little shorter than the rail line behind the door so if someone tries to open the door from the outside, they will not be able to. Risk 2 - Possibility a robber could get to us before the cops show up. This risk should be reduced/mitigated. This risk can be mitigated but it will come at a cost. The renting manager should pay for all the locks to be replaced that have the ability to be opened up from the other side. The doorknobs in their current state are not able to be secure from one side. Therefore, they need to be replaced for the risk to be mitigated completely. Risk 3 - Fire due to lint build-up in the dryer. This risk should be avoided. There is an easy way to prevent this from happening and that is to just clean the lint collector after every cycle, but what if you forget completely about it,(trust me it has happened many times in this house) put a note on the dryer or set a reminder to clean the lint collector after the load of laundry is done.
