What you need prior to starting the lab Internet connection Wireshark Purpose of the lab In this lab, you will draw the topology of your home network and find out the IP addresses of the connected devices. Getting to know the topology is one of the important steps in troubleshooting a network. Activity 1. Draw the logical network topology of your home network. You can draw a network topology online from www.draw.io website. Hint: Start from the gateway provided to you by an Internet provider.
2 2. Out of total, identify how many devices are using wired and wireless connections. In case of a wire connection, identify the type of cable used. ANS: Seven devices are using wireless connections and none of the devices are connected using wire. 4. What kind of topology do you think devices are connected to? Star topology, ring topology, etc. ANS:- Star topology 5. In the topology, write down all the IPv4 addresses and IPv6 addresses (if available) next to the devices. ANS:-Laptop : 192.168.2.47 Phone: 192.168.2.89

Without using the Internet, what are other ways to identify the public IP address of the default gateway. ANS: Use ipconfig command in cmd. Click on Ethernet > Network and sharing center. Pick ethernet status details from the menu. Find Default gateway is located on the network connection details lab. 8. Run wireshark on one of the desktop/laptop computers connected to the home network and check if you see any IP address which you think is not a part of the home network. This could give you a clue of any suspicious activity or an unauthorized device connected to your home network. ANS: Running Wireshark, I noticed an uncommon connection that was listed. Drawing back to my memory this connection was listed due to going my Wi – Fi to a local due to theirs not working. 9. Upload the lab on the blackboard. This is an individual activity.
