CNET-101 L A B 12 PC Hardware NUC – N ext U nit of C omputing Student name: Student ID: Station ID: ============================================================= Instructions: Type your full name, student ID on all pages. Then write your station number on all the pages and the final signature page the moment you sit down in the lab. All labs have to be done during lab time, in the lab room. Each lab has to be checked by the professor progressively during lab time. You must call your professor to check your work and sign it whenever you reach the point asking for the professor’s signature. ============================================================= Objectives : After completing this lab, you will demonstrate the ability to: Install components in an Intel NUC model NUC5i3MYBE Create a USB Windows 10 installation drive Install Windows 10 on an Intel NUC model NUC5i3MYBE Create a network connection Download and install Windows OS updates Materials Needed: 2 USB 3.0, 3.1 or 3.2 flash drives of 8 GB or above in capacity (supplied by the student ) Phillips screwdrivers (supplied by the student ) Intel NUC model NUC5i3MYBE Network cable Internet access through the Ethernet port ______________________________________________________ LAB PREPARATION LAB 12.0 IS FOR LAB PREPARATION TO BE DONE AT HOME BEFORE THE LAB CLASS AND ANSWERS TYPED IN TO THE SPACES PROVIDED BEFORE PRINTING OUT THE LAB! SUBMIT THIS LAB TO THE DROPBOX AT LEAST ONE DAY BEFORE THE LAB DAY FOR THE PROFESSOR TO CHECK FOR PLAGIARSIM. Lab 12.0 1. Plug in one of your USB flash drives of 8 GB or larger in capacity to the USB port of your desktop PC or laptop. Ensure that there is nothing on the flash drive that you need to keep because the following procedure will erase everything on the flash drive. 2. Go to Windows Media Creation Tools website, follow the instructions to download the installation files to your USB flash drive and make it a bootable drive. 3. After you have successfully created the installation media, reboot your computer and test it out to see if you see the installation screen similar to Figure 1 below. To test the 1
CNET-101 L A B 12 PC Hardware NUC – N ext U nit of C omputing Student name: Student ID: Station ID: installation media, you need to make sure that the boot order in the BIOS/UEFI setup has the first boot device set to boot from the USB (port). Setting it to boot from the Windows Boot Manager should also do the trick as well. Figure 1 Do you see your screen on your computer similar to the Figure 1 above? If not, plug in your USB flash drive to a different USB port and try again. Failing that, use File Explorer to take a look at your flash drive and see if you see a label such as ESD-USB written on your USB flash drive (see Figure 2 below). If you don’t see a similar label, your installation media is not created properly so you need to go back to the above Microsoft’s website and retry the procedure to re- create the Windows 10 installation media again. Figure 2 4. Is the flash drive ready for installing Windows now? LAB PROCEDURE 2
CNET-101 L A B 12 PC Hardware NUC – N ext U nit of C omputing Student name: Student ID: Station ID: THE FOLLOWING IS TO BE PERFORMED IN THE LAB IN PARTNERSHIP OF 2 STUDENTS DURING THE LAB CLASS AND ANSWERS WILL HAVE TO BE COMPLETED DURING CLASS.
