It stood out to me how much this topic is not discussed in everyday life. How does humility vs. competence come up for you in your work? Humility is so important and I feel so many people are rushing to check their next box that they are not taking the time to connect with others. My previous mentor at work focused on humility, even though it was never labeled that way. Slowing down and connecting with others can really help people get along in a more harmonious way. I have people assume I am Hispanic and speak Spanish due to my last name and I try really hard to not put assumptions on others.
How did this video change your perspective about approaching cultures? I hope that other professions adapt to this cultural humility view. This is something I have worked with and continue to work with, I just had not had it labeled this way. Being genuine and realizing the person you are connecting with is their own expert allows greater communication and connections to take place. Exit Ticket: What is one thing you learned or a perspective than changed during this class? I had never given any deep thought to the term agreeing to disagree, and how it could be invalidating to someone else. I will not be using that verbiage going forward.
