IT-200 Fundamentals Info Technology 7-2 Project Two: The IT Professional Paige Rakoczy 6/18/23 The IT Professional IT Disciplines: Computer Science - the study of computers, algorithmic processes, their principles, hardware, software designs, applications, and their impact on society. If you have received a degree in computer science you can lead in a career as a software developer, web developer, software tester or data scientist to name a few. Required skills for a career in computer science are programming, knowledge of software development, coding languages and a strong command of mathematical formulas. Information Systems - an integrated set of components for storing, processing data, collecting and for providing information, knowledge, and digital products. This discipline is related to a career as an information system analyst in the IT field. A useful tool would be a database. Engineering - designing and developing computer systems and technological devices. Careers within the IT field that are related to engineering are software engineer, web developer, and an environmental engineer. The tools that are most applicable in computer engineering are circuit boards, keyboards, modems, and hard drives.
Information Technology- the use of computer devices, or systems to access information, it is responsible for large portions of our workforce, business operations and personal access to information. Examples of careers in information technology are computer technician, hardware manufacturer, cloud engineer, and a help desk technician. Applicable tools and technologies in IT are project management software, document management software, help desk software, and vulnerability management software to name a few. Programming & Scripting: Scripting can be defined as a programming language that is used in an exceptional run- time environment to automate tasks' execution. It is an essential component of programming languages at a basic level. While programming can be defined as a set of rules and wording that is used to create programs that get computers to perform a task. The main difference between the two is that one needs to comply and the other one does not. Scripting doesn’t require a compiler but instead requires interpretation, and programming needs to be compiled first. Scripting uses a small set of instructions which are used to produce different kinds of outputs, while programming is used to write a set of instructions that are used to perform a task. Information Technology Careers: IT technician (Entry-Level)- This position would best fit as an entry-level career in information technology. The responsibilities of an IT technician are as follows, supporting technical issues within the organization’s computer system, performing the technical work involved in resolving the issue. As an IT technician you must be able to know how to use several
operating systems, know how to troubleshoot, and understand the basics of IT networks. Most used tools as an IT technician are a computer, a multi-meter, soldering iron, and a cable tester. If interested in an entry-level position in this field, it would be helpful to obtain the CompTIA A+ certification. Software Developer (Mid-Level)- This mid-level position is in relation to a career in computer science. As a software developer you are responsible for creating software that meets users’ needs by employing models, diagrams, writing code, and ensuring functionality. As a software developer you will build and design computer applications, and programs. Most used technologies in this field include MicrosoftFlow, Jest, Apple MDM, Svelte, and Microsoft PowerApps. To become a software developer, you must first begin with earning a bachelor's degree in computer science, if you have obtained an associate degree in computer science you can also pursue employment in this filed it is just recommended to have a bachelor's degree. Software Engineer - As a software engineer you develop programs and operating systems for computers, you will work with system analysts, programmers, and other engineers to design systems, and project capabilities. Software engineers can find a job in a lot of different industries since most companies use software. Tools, and skills needed to succeed in this career are as follows, organization skills, attention to detail, software testing, knowledge in programming languages such as Java, SQL, and Python. To pursue a career in software engineering you will need at the very least a bachelor's degree in software engineering, computer science, information technology or a related field. References
