Design a Focused Survey Template Melissa Temen 08/29/2023 Instructions: Record your responses on the template below each question and submit your completed template to the appropriate assessment. Do not change any of the items on the template except to add or delete space. 1. State the population of your study. You should be able to do this in one to three sentences. Include specific characteristics, including age range, gender, location, and any other identifiers that are unique and relevant to your population. The population of my study is males and females between the ages of 6-12 years old who have been or are currently in an environment where they have witnessed one parent (or partner of one parent) abusing the other. 2. Describe your sampling strategy. Write at least one paragraph describing your sampling strategy, how you would attempt to conduct your survey, and any potential issues that might affect your survey results. You should use one of the following techniques: random , stratified , cluster , systematic , or convenience. Your choice of strategy should be based on the purpose of your survey and your population. An email including a link to a web-based questionnaire will be sent out to an established population of families subjected to trauma caused by the abuse of one parent containing children ages 6-12. From that population, the sampling will be sorted into two groups: Group #1 – Children who are still living in an environment with the abuser Group #2 - Children who no longer live in an environment with the abuser Respondents will then be divided by birth-assigned gender in each group, making four total strata: Group #1 – Girls 6-12 years old who still live in an environment with the abuser Group #2 - Boys 6-12 years old who still live in an environment with the abuser Group #3 - Girls 6-12 years old who no longer live in an environment with the abuser Group #4 - Boys 6-12 years old who no longer live in an environment with the abuser Each participant will be provided with and asked to complete similar questionnaires, with the only variable being the verbiage appropriate for the participant’s living situations (i.e., living currently with the abuser or previously having lived with the abuser). The responses might provide a few potential problems, mostly due to the population sampled. Given the age range of participants, there may be comprehension issues with the questions 1
themselves. This issue may require a different wording or the survey. Given the sensitive nature of the questions, participants may not feel confident that it is safe to give truthful responses. Finally, recruitment comes with issues as well. Reaching the target population may prove to be difficult; the odds of reaching prospects are dependent on the delivery of the questionnaire. Emailing the questionnaire may put prospects' safety at risk, given the nature of the survey. A potential solution may be reaching out to therapists and advocacy groups to request the questionnaire to be distributed safely to their client base. 2
