Explain. Attempt 1 RH Randi Hermann Jan 17, 2024, 8:33 PM I'm fifty-fifty on this question. I think it all depends on exactly what type of electronic device they bring to school. Many students have Apple/Samsung watches and some students can handle them and some can't. Some have limitations on them where they can only call out to parents in an emergency. There are some benefits with phones for students such as one in my daughter's first-grade classroom who has diabetes and brings his cell phone in daily because it monitors his blood sugar levels. I think if left in their backpacks on silent, they are not hurting anyone because maybe they use them after school if they walk home or go somewhere other than their home. If we are talking laptops, as long as they are logged on through the school's WiFi, they have certain firewalls that prevent any unacceptable actions. However, no one is perfect, and it's almost impossible to catch every single action a student makes. Students today are way too smart for their own good and know how to get around certain limitations when it comes to firewalls. The Chromebooks our
students are provided, I have heard from many of the students that they know how to play certain games that are restricted. While I would say for those responsible, yes bringing electronic devices from home is fine, I would need to take into consideration that the other students should also be able to. You can't say yes to some and no to others. So unfortunately, to get around any preventable actions, I think saying no to any electronic device would have to be set in place. It only takes one student right?
