Section 1: Identifying Computer Literacy 1. What does being “computer literate” mean to you? (2 points) It means to me that somebody can use and understand basic computers. It also means to me that the person can use simple software and applications that are on the computer. I would also say that it means they know how to use email, are good with internet and basic operation of the computer like turn on and off, input devices and output devices. 2. How computer literate to you feel you already are? Provide an example to support your opinion. (2 points) I feel am very computer literate because I have finished a cyber security associate degree in schoolcraft and, I have certificates from Cambridge university for programming and networking. Section 2: Personal and Professional Benefits of Computer Literacy 1. List one way technology is/was used where you currently/previously worked. Do you think that task could have been done without using technology? Explain. (2 points) Toast: it’s a platform for placing orders at restaurants and it prints orders in the kitchen, so they are prepared. I think the task would have been down without technology, but it would be very time-consuming, and a lot of writing would be needed and time. But using technology helps because you just choose options on the screen and changes needed on an order and it’s done in like seconds. 2. How will becoming more computer literate benefit you personally ? (2 points) a. In the short term: it would help me understand new technologies and systems. b. In the long term: it would help me get a professional job and advance my career in the future because everything is becoming computerized day by day.

3. How will becoming more computer literate benefit you professionally ? (2 points) a. In the short term : professionally it would benefit me by helping me find jobs and give interviews using technology. b. In the long term: I would benefit a lot because I would be able to understand systems and technology, and this would help me work faster and better and also advance in my career because I will have more knowledge about computers and technology. 4. What do you think may be some negative consequences for you in your current or chosen career if you do not increase your computer literacy? (2 points) The only negative consequences I see are that I will be left behind if I do not keep increasing my computer literacy because day by day everything is changing in the technological world. So, it’s important in my chosen career to get certified and keep up with new software and programming languages that keep coming up. Section 3: Technology and Social Issues 1. Think about a public figure or organization that uses technology to affect social issues and provide the following information: (10 points) a. Name of the person/organization you follow: Elon Musk b. Link to their home page: https://twitter.com/elonmusk c. Social media platforms they participate in: Elon Musk is active on X (new name for twitter) he engages with the public here and also shares his thoughts and other things on this platform. d. Social issue this person/organization is influencing in our society: the thing is doing is environmental sustainability especially through tesla his electric car company. He wants to increase electric cars so that we do not pollute the environment much and be able to use renewable energy. e. An example of how they do this: he was the first successful person to launch an electric car and make it so good that many people opted for it and by doing this he has helped reduce the carbon footprint that is there with regular cars. Another thing is space X which is working towards space travel, they trying to make it easier and faster and planning to colonize mars so that people can live there also same as earth.
