Assignment 9-1 Professor Sherry Jerome-Stebens Due November 4, 2010
D1.a. The integrated view should include one entity. One entity conflict is name conflict which occurs when the same entity included in different conceptual models is not labeled identically. A person who models the different views at different times may use synonyms for the same entity. b. The attributes that should be included in the integrated model for the cash entities are payment and cash disbursement. c. Each relationship should have a unique name to avoid any possible confusion in communications about relationships in the database. Relationship structure conflicts exist when the same relationship is assigned different cardinalities in multiple views. D2.Certain pairs or groups of events always occur simultaneously. Such events are called conceptually congruent events. The practical compromise is to collapse, consolidate, the entities, for conceptually congruent events. D3.This is considered an implementation compromise because it such an informational system is usually not achievable. Compromises must be made due to practical considerations, insufficient measurement techniques, and other constants. This is a logical level implementation compromise. D4.This activity roll-up recognizes that enterprise databases exist in a finite storage space and also recognizes that the larger the size of the database, the less efficient querying becomes. This is an implementation compromise that occurs at the physical level.
