Overview:
From my experience of cyberbullying tasks during high school was not very good, so this
approach was an attempt to engage students in the issues of online experiences by making it
relevant to their own lives. For investigating with ICT, I incorporated the use of Mind-maps
for students to respond so that they can visually structure the ideas and concepts on the
websites. The inclusion of actors was to underpin the issues of how cyberbullying can affect
your self-esteem, handle online harassment and how you can support a safe and positive
social media environment. For communicating with ICT, students would work collaboratively
in pairs to play ‘The Lost Summer’ and afterwards, answer a quiz to reflect on their
experience playing the game. The chapter “Mean Memes” was selected for students to play as
one of the characters ‘Leon’ has become a victim of online bullying over a ‘mean meme’ and
the character the students role-play as must help ‘Leon’ in any way they can. Nixon states that
“cyberbullying has become an international public health concern among adolescents”
(2014). Therefore, ICT capabilities are critical for students to figure out how to utilize ICT
with certainty, care and thought, understanding its prospects, restrictions and effect on people,
gatherings and networks.

and

pairs and will be given 15 minutes to complete this task and afterwards, you will upload a
screenshot of your mind maps to
P
adlet.
IMPORTANT: Try to put the sentences into your own words or even better choose KEY
WORDS that stand out the most.

Celebrities in the public eye are also susceptible to cyber-bullying based on their beliefs, actions and even
their appearance.
In pairs, discuss between yourselves if you know any other celebrities (youtubers,
actors/actresses, singers, dancers, etc) that have had to handle bullying online?
Task: In groups of 4, choose a celebrity that you believe respects their online presence and create a
collage through ‘picmonkey’ that visually describes your chosen use of their platform in the public
eye and how they dealt with negative criticism.
Communicating with ICT : “The Lost
Summer”
Task: You will be playing “The Lost Summer”; an interactive role-play game.
You
will play the character Koleen and witness first-hand how misinformation can
spread bullying online very rapidly.
You will be given 20 minutes to complete the
chapter ‘Mean Memes’. This task will be done in pairs.
Once you have completed the chapter,
you will then complete a reflective quiz
of experiences through a google docs form.
You will not be marked on your responses,
however, you must complete the quiz after
you have finished playing the game.
